Those YOU can paint!
Ouch. I think I was just stomped. 😥
I think it was the thought of painting all that dappling 😆
May 20, 2007 at 3:06 am #578899I think that any horse color would do well. Especially since we always see the traditional white, it would stand out.
Solid horse colors would probably be the least trouble: bay, chesnut, sorrel, palomino, buckskin, dun. Really, any regular horse color!
I’m not really fond of candy colord unicorns (pink, blue, purple or whatever).
May 20, 2007 at 3:10 am #578900I agree. I’d love to see a nice chestnut or bay. The unicorn Melody just posted in the gallery is a real beauty. 🙂
May 20, 2007 at 3:27 am #578901i am very interested to see how the crazy colored unis come out.. i am very afraid to paint one in un-natural colors for the fear it would look like a my little pony! lol! it will have to be carefully executed, though one would definitely be pretty with some tasteful interference…
May 20, 2007 at 3:33 am #578902What about an Appaloosa? But it doesn’t really matter to me anyway since I don’t collect the equines. Still if the pegasi were re-released I’d like them in paint or appy.

Depending on what Appaloosa pattern you go with it would be just as difficult as doing a Dapple Grey. Though I must say I would love an appy with a blanket myself on either.
May 20, 2007 at 4:05 am #578904my gosh i am so all about dapple gray with a nice dark muzzle, soooooo stunning! awwwwwwww! i ‘d love to do the pyo like that, but boy that’s an airbrush paint job, not brush!
May 20, 2007 at 4:54 am #578905That’s something I’d been meaning to ask the more experienced painters: can you use brushes to paint something that has a hair-textured coat, or is it just a nightmare? It seems as if the paint would glob up in the grooves of the hair and refuse to stick to the high areas. I’d imagine that an airbrush would eliminate some of this problem. But I’m not familiar with airbrushes. 😕
May 20, 2007 at 4:57 am #578906We’ve all been brush painting griffins, and they have hair textured butts. Brush painting something with fur works just fine!
May 20, 2007 at 5:24 am #578907Oh yeah . . . I’m a doofus, of course they do. 😳 Well, I’m glad to hear it. I have some PYOs waiting for me to get up the nerve to try painting them. I’ve been planning to work with brushes, since that’s what I’ve got–hence the sudden attack by the Whatifs. The crafts room is almost set up again; I can actually start planning a PYO! 😀
May 20, 2007 at 5:29 am #578908thats right it does work! you just have to work with the fur grain the right way…but it sure isn’t too fun in my opinion! where i used to work they painted fur textured critters every day, but their secret was using OIL paints instead, so they had the necessary looooong work time to pull off the needed blending in painting with a brush. they needed super clean, precise detail on small figures, so oil worked best, for the rich color and super workability. i’m tempted to try it on the uni……hmmm….

Not true, I can do a dapple grey with only brushes.

well for ME anyway, though i’d love to try! i’ll try and make a mess, lol! i don’t have an air brush, nor do i care to own one. heck, i’m a sculptor not a painter anyway! good for you kyrin if you can pull that fabulous subtleness off, i look forward to seeing yours and everybody elses! do you normally paint horsies? this will be so different to see how everyone deals with painting a totally different kind of critter, especially now, giving the horse painting folk a great chance to shine! squee! i can’t wait to see!
