I wish I could help! I have never done that though.

😆 guess I did forget to describe ugly… The backgroung is a muddy taupe grey with a darker warm grey leaf pattern. Over the top of it all is a white vinyl leaf and berry pattern. Everywhere the vinyl is, it’s stuck like crazy to the wall, you basically have to pick it off with your fingernails. I ‘ve also run across patches of a different layer of wallpaper. It’s a pale greeny blue something. They shoulda just left well enough alone because the greeny blue paper looks so much better with the tile, carpet and ceiling color than the nasty muddy stuff… 🙄

July 3, 2008 at 1:45 pm #719438We did our dining room earlier this year and there were three layers of the stuff on there. It came off really easy with a steamer though. You may want to try that.
We just finished patching holes and doing a Venetian plaster finish on the ceiling and walls. We’ve decided on a paint color, so we will be painting it soon. Next we need to scrape off several layers of paint from the trim, chairrail, and wainscotting. Wanna help? 😀
July 3, 2008 at 3:09 pm #719439Love to! 😆 Then after that you can come to Idaho and help with my ceilings… 😆 😆 😆 …and the steamer, while a good idea, takes off ALL the paper; including what’s covering the sheet rock 🙄

July 7, 2008 at 2:14 am #719440D’oh! That sucks. I would love to go to Idaho and help you. It would be so much fun to meet you and your boys in person… and see Icy Breeze in his new home. 🙂 But I don’t think it’s going to happen soon. Sorry. 🙁
July 7, 2008 at 2:23 am #719441Awww, rats! I can dream, though, can’t I? I think we as a forum ought to have our own convention just so we could all get together and meet us all in person…

July 8, 2008 at 12:17 pm #719442I agree. That would be fun.
July 8, 2008 at 5:47 pm #719443But where would occur that convention? I’m in French Canada, some are in South United States, some are in Europe… It would have to be somewhere “close” to everyone! Is that possible? 🙄
July 8, 2008 at 6:02 pm #719444That would be fun but no way could you get everyone to agree on a date, and no way can you get it to be convenient for everyone. It’s just the rule of the world. At least one person will say they can’t make it.
July 8, 2008 at 6:10 pm #719445We could make it a ‘house warming’ at the new factory in Oregon…

July 8, 2008 at 7:22 pm #719446Oh, I’d love to but you’ll have to give me a year to save up…and get my passport. 😆
July 8, 2008 at 7:29 pm #719447Great Idea
July 9, 2008 at 12:55 pm #719448I tried taking wallpaper off my kid’s room once while she was in the bathtub “Just a minute, it won’t be much longer, honey!” as I frantically strip this stuff off the walls which has four layers of old wallpaper and I’m soaking it off with water and the glue is loosening and I’m throwing the strips on the linoleum floor “Not much longer, I promise!” *strip, soak, yank, pull, shout, swear quietly* (I was in my early 20’s at the time and kid was about 4 or so.)Go in, add warm water to bath, “almost through, just a few more minutes!” Finish getting wallpaper off wall, discover that wallpaper is now stuck! glued! tight! to floor!!! What a mess!!! Child has been in bathtub for long enough to become a prune and as good a child as she is, she will not stay there one more minute! Get child out of bath, dress child, start laughing and take child for walk in park. Face problem later. My first experience with wallpaper should have turned me off permanently, but it didn’t. I went on to learn how to do it better without children in the bathtub and actually enjoy it. I can’t say I’m an expert by any possible means, but it got to be fun. One does things in one’s 20’s that when one looks back, one says what? were you mad? But it seemed reasonable at the time or it worked or it seemed the only way at the time or the best choice. Funny that way…

July 9, 2008 at 4:01 pm #719450I can feel your pain on the wallpaper; had a similar problem here when we bought this house. Previous (original) owners were definitely children of the ’60’s…..The bathroom was tiled in 2 different shades of brown–a “warm” chocolate pudding color, and a “cool” chocolate mousse color, the fixtures are beige, and the vanity tops were salmon pinky-orange. 😯 They’d wallpapered with a Monet-type water lily print in blues. *sigh* When I went and stripped the paper, I found the original color of the walls had been a VERY dark chocolate brown. Yuck. They didn’t prep the walls, so even with a steamer, the paper took chunks off with it. I spackled the worst of it, and since we were due to move in in like 2 days, I opted to paint over it. I painted a base color, and sponged another color over it to hide the rougher spots. I also used the “Make It Stone” paint to hide the salmon vanity tops…..but we really need to update the bath, and SOON. It’ll have to be done before we consider moving, that’s for sure.
