Two Questions

First, do I send pictures to John to make sure I haven’t infringed on any copyrights?

Second, what is better….brush on gloss for a top coat? Or spray on gloss for the top coat? I just don’t want to spray anything in my appartment because of my fish and cats, and there is too much snow outside to spray out there.

I dont think you need to send pics to John. I dont think any of us ever have. You can look at a peice and see if it looks like a production color. As for the top coat, I have no idea 🙂 I prefer brush, but thats because I have never used spray.

I personnally prefer painting on the top coat. With the spray, I got the impression I missed spots.

If your PYO is for you only, I don’t think you need to check with John. It’s if you want to sell that it can become a problem.

If you can’t spray outside, use the brush on stuff. DON’T spray that in your house!! The fumes are way too strong.

I personally really like the brush on finishes. It lets me seal parts of the PYO I’ve completed as I go, so I don’t accidentally hurt what’s finished while I’m working on other parts…it also allows me to give different finishes to different parts of the sculptures (ex: I give the ki-rins a satin finish on their fur and a gloss finish on their scales and hooves.)

It’s for the swap, so it’s not for myself. I just wanted to know before I top coated it so I could change it without too much work.

I don’t know, then… but since it’s not going for profit (and I don’t think anyone would sell their swap) you might be ok.

I spray gloss mine in the bathroom with the fan on– do you have fan thingy in the bathroom? Then just keep the door closed for a while– works for me.
