they call it ornamental bamboo here in florida, I don’t know about anywhere else. It gets little white flowers that kinda grow in clumps on it. Be careful, the roots grow new bushes and it can take over. I have some in my yard.

LOL where I am at, its kinda hard to get anything “cool” to grow! LOL
2Huberts, I looked up ornamental bamboo and came up with Heavenly Bamboo. The picture looks just like mine. But mine does not produce flowers at all.
“Heavenly bamboo (Nandina domestica) – looks like short bamboo but has brilliant yellow, orange and reddish leaves. Can grow slowly to moderately to 6 feet. In the desert needs some shelter from blasting sunlight. It may need treatment for iron-deficiency which turns the leaves yellow with green veins. Very drought tolerant.”

April 27, 2008 at 2:58 am #690645OK Here is a leaf that looks like an Oak tree leaf but it isn’t… What is it??? 😛
April 27, 2008 at 12:55 pm #690646I think it’s a burning bush too. As for the sumac, if it’s what I think it is, it also spreads!

That looks like a fig tree to me. Does it have a strong smell?

Actually, this could be related to the heavenly bamboo. It looks like what we’ve always called Nandina (which, apparently, is in the same family as heavenly bamboo–I had no idea 😆 ). They appear to come in all different sizes. I’ve seen them as six-foot-tall bushes that grow red berries, but there are also smaller ornamental types. We had small ones in the yard; one of them never grew berries at all. It also wasn’t invasive. So this bush is probably in the Nandina family, but I’m not sure which variety it is. If it’s anything like ours, be careful when you prune it and don’t take it back hard. If you cut it back below the level of leaf shoots, it does badly. Just give it a shaping “shear” and make sure there are leafy shoots below your cut points on the branches.
April 27, 2008 at 6:07 pm #690650Now that I am not sure of… the cottonwood trees are to thank for that… They get my allergies REALLY going. 🙁 I can’t smell much of anything at the moment.
That leaf is from my ex in laws back yard, the tree is about 2 ft tall at the moment. I just need to go over there and take a picture of the whole thing. 😉
