Ok, My Alan says….. That little tube is where the water feeds into the tank. If the water overflows the PVC piece, it keeps running. Thats where the ballcock comes in, to stop the water when it gets to a certain level. 😕 😉
August 3, 2009 at 1:46 am #777991I just had to post this… and no, I don’t own one! 😆

No, it doesn’t feed into the tank, it s goes down the overflow tube. Maybe it is to top off the bowl water level?

Unless it’s my toilet. Then it floods because the overflow doesn’t work anymore. 🙄 😆 I was taking a shower and looked through the shower door and thought cool the way the water’s hitting the door makes it look like water is rippling on the floor. Then I finished the shower and steppped into flooed bathroom from overflowing toilet tank.

Mine feeds the water into the tank. I spent a lot of time watching the toilet fill so i could figure out why it kept flooding the bathroom. 😀

You got it. When the toilet flushes, the water level in the bowl is much reduced from where it needs to be due to the siphon effect having pulled most of the water out of the bowl before the lack of water lets air through to break the siphon.
As the tank fills, a small amount of water is diverted to go down the overflow pipe to bring up the water level in the bowl.
Without that extra water in the bowl, there may not be enough to make a water trap, and stinky air could get from the sewer or septic tank to your bathroom.

August 4, 2009 at 12:51 am #778000You would be amazed at the things that can disappear in the flush of a potty… When the boys were little, not quite a year old, they went on a spree that lasted for months – shoes (mine), books (Roddy’s) the cat (she wasn’t happy…) But their most favorite thing to do was to fill the bowl with T.P. and while it was still attached to the roll they’d flush and the T.P. would go whirling off the roll and down the potty accompanied by gales of giggles in stereo… It took us adults quite a while to figure out where all the paper was disappearing to 😕 😕 🙄 What one boy didn’t think of, the other did and they learned VERY early on to co-operate with each other – they had me outnumbered most of the time 😈

August 4, 2009 at 1:34 am #778001I know why some people 😕 want toilets that can flush golf balls down. It’s for people like me, who can plug pretty much any toilet with some items that belong in the toilet or even just one 😳 . Golf balls and T.P. would be the least of the toilet’s concerns 👿 .
August 4, 2009 at 2:08 am #778002On the sides of the boxes we have in the store it shows a little drawn photo of golf balls going in the toilet 😆
Like it’s a selling feature!
Oh gee hunny! Look! It can flush golf balls! WE MUST HAVE IT! 😮

I don’t know how, but she knocked our toilet out of commission several times- and still does at her place. 😮 We’re talking normal use, not golf ball slaughter. 😳 😆
The fish thing ticks me off royally though.August 4, 2009 at 9:42 pm #778004AnonymousIt’s called the King of Thrones, and it’s made by American Standard.
I plug the toilet every single time I use it. My friend said I could lose a beer bottle and not notice. He is probably right.
Are ya grossed out yet? 😆
