Introducing Gavin Hood. Sorry for the crappy photo. I wanted to snap one really fast to send to my mother and husband.
I’ll be going to the Georgia Renaissance Faire this weekend with my mother and last week I decided that I wanted my son to go in costume. Finding a pattern small enough for him was a challenge. Gavin may be almost three and a half years old, but he’s only three feet tall and weighs less than 30 pounds.
The hat, that I was worried would be too big, almost seems small and still needs a feather. The shirt’s a pretty good fit. I made it a size larger so he would have growing room. He’s swimming in the pants (like always π ), but they don’t have any elastic in the waistband yet.
I’ll be sure to take “finished” pictures at the ren faire.

April 8, 2008 at 3:04 pm #688273Thank you! This will actually be his third ren fair to go to, but his first one in full costume and on foot. I decided to forgo the stroller this year. The hills are killers. He’s getting big enough that he should be able to last most of the day on his feet. We’ll take it easy and if he’s ready to leave before the faire’s end that’s okay with me too.
April 8, 2008 at 9:17 pm #688274Cute costume!!! He should fit right in with the rest of the crowd!!! What costume are you wearing? π
April 8, 2008 at 9:24 pm #688275Except for the fact that it’s aqua tones, you could call it a peasant/wench costume. Skirt’s a dark aqua, shirt’s pale aqua. I have a floral corset that I’m looking to replace with a leather one – probably black to match my boots that come up to just below my knees. I don’t have a picture of me in the costume for some reason. I’ll be sure to get one this year. I haven’t decided if I’m taking my rose paisley cloak along or not. Usually it’s warm enough that I don’t need it, but that’s when I go later in the season late May rather than opening weekend in mid April.
April 8, 2008 at 11:07 pm #688276Yeah, the weather is unpredictable this time of year. I went to our Ren Faire a couple of weeks ago and I wore shorts. I’m looking forward to the photo of you in costume. Your outfit sounds very pretty!! π
April 9, 2008 at 6:05 am #688277That’s neat! Ren faires are fun.

I’ll see what I can do, though I don’t ever remember seeing a lot of barbarians at the Georgia Renaissance Festival.

April 10, 2008 at 2:49 am #688282aww your sons costume is so cute ;D
I love the ren fests!!!! π I didnt go the past two years, maybe I should check it out again this year..
I didnt know it was so soon πi hate to go to things like that alone though.
Maybe my older brother will let me tag along with him, sometimes I cramp his style LOL πApril 10, 2008 at 2:54 am #688283Yep the Georgia Renaissance Festival starts this weekend and runs every weekend until June 1. I’ve been at the GA. Ren Faire almost every year in the last 8 years. I missed last year because my husband deployed and I couldn’t get things worked out for going. I hate going alone as well, but none of my friends are able to make it this year. I was really surprised when my mom volunteered to go with me. They aren’t really her kind of thing, but since she lives 6 hours away from me (and a lot closer to the fair than I am) she offered to go, probably so she could spend some time with me and my son, her only grandson. In fact he’s the only grandson on both sides of the family so far. My brother-in-laws girlfriend is pregnant (baby due in early October) and they don’t know what they are having yet.
April 10, 2008 at 3:00 am #688284Aw, that’s very cute!
