Well, regardless of shipping, I still think they’re neat!

May 28, 2008 at 10:38 pm #709014I really like those. But not enough to pay that much.
According to another seller on ebay, these are the dimensions:
Height 15 cm Width 14 cmAnd no, the seller IS gouging. They’re using EMS for shipping, which is very expensive… but not quite that expensive. EMS uses a flat-rate charge up to a certain weight (and then by destination country), and even without knowing the weight, I’d say that’s too much. Plus, another seller from China is charging $60 via EMS, so it definitely can be cheaper.
And though $60 still seems pretty hefty, EMS is FAST!! When I lived in Nebraska, and ordered stuff from Japan that was shipped via EMS (quoted as 5-7 days), I’d have it in 3-4 days. I always liked having EMS for a shipping option.
Ohhhh yeah… those were the days… pay $30 shipping for hard-to-find anime plushies. Yeah, I was dumb, but I <3 my plushies. Though that was before I discovered this place, which has kept me from being able to buy so many non-DVD anime things.

Now you’re making me jealous with being in Japan to get said wonder-ments 😥 Still trying to track down a rat Yuki (Fruits Basket) & a Soi Fong and Yoruichi plushies (Bleach).*must take vacation to fly to Okinawa*

Hehe… well, it is quite nice here. But actually I was referring to the forum as “this place”. No job and lots of pretty Windstones make me poor . But come to Okinawa and you’ll have a free place to stay! Though if you really want good anime stuff, you’ll need to hit Mainland. So far, I’ve been sorely disappointed by the amount of anime I’ve found on this island.
I know a few places online that have the rat-costumed Yuki (or is there another I’m unaware of?)… there’s a couple on eBay too. And I don’t think they make those Bleach plushies yet. Of course, the Tokyo retailer I used to use isn’t online anymore (not that I remember their name to see if they started back up), so I don’t have a good place to check :?. I’ll keep an eye out for you.
May 29, 2008 at 12:33 am #709017Nope, they did make a Yuki as a Rat (as opposed to Yuki dressed as a rat). I’ll probably just end up making my own. Can’t be that hard. They did make Soi Fong and Yoruichi, but they seem to have disappeared from ebay about a month or two ago (been pretty scarce since the beginning of the year now that I think of it). I found a store somewhere that had one of them. I’ll have to scrounge around for the link this weekend and just suck it up and order 🙄
Have you gone exploring Okinawa yet (getting away from Naha that is)? I’ve heard getting out of Naha (unless you’re into a lot of history and visiting the war memorials is recommended, though they do have the markets, Shuri Castle, etc. – not sure where the base is located in Okinawa). Recommendations I’ve heard are heading up north to the Aquarium in Nago and the pineapple park, and the islands in the south. Ishigaki and Iriomote are supposed to be amazing. Iriomote is covered in sub-tropical rainforest (kayaking on the Urauchi river. snorkling). Komaka island is a very tiny island about 20 minutes ferry from the main island with, supposedly, a very beautiful little beach and excellent snorkling. Man, now I’m wishing it wasn’t so freezing at work today – the super AC is on and it’s not even 70 degrees F out – *shivers* My finger tips are actually a bit on the blue side!
May 29, 2008 at 1:13 am #709018Oy… The things I miss…. I should at least know about Yuki, and feel sorta out-of-place that I don’t. Bleach, maybe not so much. I haven’t really gotten into it yet. I have all the current eps on my computer, but have only watched the DVD box set. I’m still trying to get myself to watch more Naruto (beyond the DVDs) before I launch myself into another long series.
I haven’t done too much exploring yet, but should start soon. I don’t like going off alone, and I’m nearly always alone, so I haven’t done as much as I could’ve by now. I have a new friend though that wants to go exploring, so we might end up doing some fun things soon.
I’m not actually in Naha. I’m about 15 miles north of it. It’s close, but seems kinda far (the whole island’s only 67 mi long) once you get used to the distances/speeds around here. I’ve been as far north as Nago. I’ve been to the aquarium (which is small, but pretty cool- and has whale sharks!), and we should be hitting the Pineapple Park, the Butterfly Garden, and hopefully the Botanical Gardens sometime this summer. Oh, and more kayaking. Did that a couple weeks ago at a little beach rental shack down the road. ‘Twas fun, other than getting flipped by converging waves (and flipping my thumbnail back as I was crashed into the coral rocks multiple times… tho luckily not landing on sea urchins in the process ).
Hubby’s just taken up snorkeling and wants to take a scuba class, so I’ll be dragged along to do that pretty soon (I’d like to snorkel/scuba, but feel like a glow-in-the-dark [other than my healing, sunburnt legs, I’m super pale] beached whale in my bathing suit right now). Once we get more into that, we’ll definitely check out some of the other islands. The pictures I’ve seen have been gorgeous! I should probably just sign up for some base-sponsored tours and get out there already. I’m a perpetual procrastinator. 🙄

I’ve been watching the animes, but I’ve been up to date watching the scanlations (I’m too impatient) and like doing both (since the dubs seem to have some issues in their translations, or some stuff is left out that would so add if you were either reading a good scanlation or in the original japanese). I keep squealing at all the back history that is being explained in the manga right now for Bleach and the major reveal for Naruto! My co-worker can attest to the squealing! It’s also easier to read manga online at work when it’s quiet (or I just need a couple minutes break) versus watching an entire episode.

Very true. Which is why I only watch the English dubs if A) I can convince my husband to watch with me (he can’t keep up with the subtitles and quickly loses interest) or B) I love someone’s voice and nobody else’s is annoying enough to keep me from listening. And even if I watch the dub, I watch it again subtitled when I’m alone. The dubs are much better (IMO) than they were a decade ago, but so much emotion is completely missed because of how the dubbers think the character should sound. Ugh.
I can’t get into manga. The ones I’d like to read are just too long. When a series is already 150+ episodes, I’m not going to even attempt the manga. You have me curious about the Naruto reveal though. I have so much to catch up on! I can’t decide if I should catch up on Naruto or Prince of Tennis first. 😕 Probably PoT… I keep having dreams of it.

I retract what I said then- yikes! So that’s about $20 too much, huh?
It is unfortunate that people gouge the shipping like that. On the flip side it’s also very frustrating as a seller to have people accuse of overcharging for shipping when I am actually losing money most of the time for shipping. Shipping is getting steadily more expensive as fuel costs go up.

My art: featherdust.comJune 13, 2008 at 12:29 am #709022There was a bracelet I loved, I think it’s from the same seller. They wanted $50 to ship it. Yes, shipping from China is expensive but, not that much….
