Thanks everyone, but it was hardly anything compared to what everyone else has done.

My husband was asked by a homeless guy for some money by a guy who said he was trying to get home. He gave Mike a story about needing to get home. Mike gave him 10 dollars, went in to pay for his gas and bought a $2 lottery ticket. The ones that have ten chances to win. His ticket had a winner on every single number. So he won his $10 back.
I thought that was cool!I see what you are saying Ski. I am afraid to give money as well. Whenever I get pissy in traffic, I’d give the sign holder on the corner a dollar. Some weeks he made A LOT of money! 😆
Necron, you did get a wonderful gift and I know you appreciate it. Show you kids how much you appreciate living and give your sweet wife hugs and I’m sure the debt will be considered paid!
I’m not sure how I would feel about meeting someone who got my husband’s organs. I know I would be hesitant, but can’t explain why.June 13, 2008 at 9:35 pm #713122This is something small and stupid. But, I lost contact with a friend. We kind of had a big fight, and well just burned the bridge behind us. Sadly, I never got to see her daughter after that, she was a few months old by this time. Plus, I had been friends with some people that worked for her. I didn’t see them either after.
I bumped into this friend a few months ago. She told me to stop by the business, the people that I had worked with wanted to see me. I guess Lisa always talks about me. I’m happy that Lori (the friend that I had a fight with) invited me to the business, Lori is now pregnant again. Lisa, is having trouble with her tendinitis, and will have to stop grooming soon. She’s talking about opening a school. It’s something both me and her were going to do. (Bittersweet? You bet) So, I’ll be heading over to visit them. I hope it won’t be awkward, but, it’s something I have to do to put all this bad stuff behind me. Maybe, I’ll be able to forgive myself as well. (Don’t ask, long angst filled tale. You’ll all just hate me, plus, I’m sure it went to court but, I still wouldn’t be able to talk about it.)
It will be so nice to see them all again. (Even if I’m kind of dreading it.)

You may not think so, but look at it thru the eyes of the 2 people you helped. He was panhandling for $2.00 in gas and a candy bar. They were stuck there, you were a godsend for them. 😉 🙂
June 13, 2008 at 10:04 pm #713124What am I proud of? Well I’m proud that every day I go to work I have a chance to save someones life. I’m proud of the brotherhood that I work with. I’m proud of my husband for going through everything he has gone through and never giving up, and I’m proud that I was able to bring life into this world.
June 14, 2008 at 2:17 am #713125Here’s a corny one for you….
I’m an environmental consultant now, but for the last 20 years I was an operator in several waste water treatment facilities and 2 Superfund Site remediations. The plants I ran took in dirty and/or highly polluted water, treated it, and made it clean again. Whenever my husband and I go to the beach, and I hear someone comment on how clean the ocean looks, I think to myself that the weird job has paid off, and I get to make a real difference in the world.
The other thing I’m kind of proud of is that my husband and I both volunteer at a Senior Citizen’s complex 1 night a week as part of their Musician’s Workshop. He plays the bass; I sing (since the resident keyboard player is waaaaaay better than I am! 😀 ) and we encourage folks to get up and play if they can, or dance, and sing along. There are folks there that tell us every week how much they enjoy us coming over. It’s nice to make a difference in someone else’s life. And Kudos to everyone else who’s posted on this thread! You guys are great!
