Well, last year, we had a couple of ducks in the pool.
We haven’t seen them yet this year, buuuuut… we got another visitor! π
With the winter blanket still on, there’s not enough water to wade, so she was kind of walking on the cover. The goose explored the rest of the yard and made it up to our deck. When she saw me by the kitchen window, I startled her, so she flew away, honking like crazy.

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmMay 4, 2008 at 11:25 pm #696385π It’s always fun to see what you will find in your pool. My parents have a pool and live in a wooded area in town and I had to help my dad rescue a baby opposum one time. Poor thing was shivering like crazy when we got it out (scooped it up in the net before it got pulled into the skimmer on the side). We put it down at the back edge of the yard by all the trees and left it alone.
We enjoy sitting on the back porch and watching the bats drink from the pool.
May 4, 2008 at 11:30 pm #696386The funny thing is, I’m in newer suburbia! Just little itty bitty trees and grass. My parents have always had a pool and lots of trees, but they only had ducks once. No other sort of wildlife.
That’s for the above-ground pools, though. Inground is another story. I don’t envy my sister-in-law and her bucket fulls of frogs.

May 4, 2008 at 11:56 pm #696390I concur with twindragonsmum. Frogs!!!! The goose is beautiful. Every year they fly over our house traveling for the winter. I like to watch them fly in their V formation, honking as they go.
May 5, 2008 at 12:11 am #696391Oh yeah, my dad’s had frogs in his pool too. Those are no fun to clean out either. He’s also had the occasional vole and such turn up in the skimmer baskets.
We were told before we bought the house that one of the previous owners had actually used the swimming pool as a fish pond at one point! He was a professor in the fisheries department at the local university.
