One random question (btw, that movie is classic… π Watched it for the first time tonight, I was impressed…)
Where does the reference “Here’s Johnny!” Come from? I’m assuming it was probably in the Steven King novel it was adapted from, but the character’s name is Jack. In fact, there’s no one in the movie who’s name is Johnny, I think….
Any fans out there that know? It seems out of place to me… π
Here’s Johnny was usedin the book I believe, but it has been a few (read like 12 years) since I read the shining.
But “heres johnny” is from the tonight show with Johnny Carson, they said that every single night.
Here’s Johnny was first used on The Tonight Show when it was hosted by Johnny Carson. That’s the way Ed McMahon would introduce Johnny Carson.
If I remember right (it’s been a long time since I read it) King used it in the book. And, yes, Jack is a nickname for John, but it is also now a name on its own.
The Stanley Kubrick Shining was great , and Nickolson was awesome as a nut job as always, but the TV mini series was actually closer to book, with less chopping of scenes and more explanation of what was going on ; seeing as how King was an associate producer on it . Both are really good but Nickolson’s performance gives the edge to the Kubrick flick for me ..not to mention the hot chick in the tub that turns all zombie ..BONUS π
Nicholson was so over the top in that role, and that’s what made it so funny! π The miniseries was truer to the book, as Necron pointed out. Dragon87, you can probably here Ed McMahon introduce Johnny Carson on “The Tonight Show” if you go to YouTube or Google it. π
