Hey guys,
This is a little off topic, but I had someone concerned recently about the selection of items being on ebay. Basically, the fact that:
-At any one time there is very little variety in the types of sculptures listed. Certain types of sculptures will appear in very large numbers for a while only to disappear soon after for weeks or even months at a time (i.e., there will be tons of griffins listed for a while, and then they will completely disappear, replaced by tons of oriental dragons).
-Very similar items are put up right after one another with no way for a buyer to see in advance what is coming up (so they might spend a ton of money one one item only to have a prettier one get listed right after). These are very valid concerns, and I would not be at all surprised if a lot of our regular bidders feel the same. So, here is a very long explanation of what determines which items get listed on ebay and why I currently have no way of giving out previews for most upcoming items. Hopefully this will help everyone to understand exactly what goes on behind the scenes of Windstone ebay 🙂

The selection of ebay items is largely determined by what the casting department is currently making, and the casting department will cast large numbers of the same sculpture for use in production. They don’t cast small numbers of many different things, they cast huge numbers of only a small selection of sculptures. This is what is most efficient as far as regular and limited production things are concerned. Melody will take a small percentage of what casting makes and paint it up for ebay. In the end, this results in me also having large numbers of only a few different sculptures to post on ebay. Currently, I am getting mostly oriental dragons, fledgling dragons, and mother unicorns. In a few weeks I might only be getting griffins and curled dragons, and it could be months before I see another oriental, fledgling, or unicorn!
I require quite a lot of ebay pieces. Two a day may not sound like much, but this comes out to 14 items a week, and I am lucky if Melody actually paints 14 things a week for ebay. She spends a lot of time painting LP store items (no less important of course!). But because I don’t get huge amounts of ebay items all the time, I have to take and use literally whatever Melody gives me as soon as I get it (or else nothing would get listed!). This is also why no new previews have been posted here in so long, because I don’s have anything to preview. What you see on ebay is the majority of what currently exists.
I try to space similar items out as best I can, but sometimes I just don’t have any other options. In almost all cases right now, the items I am listing on ebay are being finished and photographed the exact same night that the listing starts. If you see any bears, zeppard poads, or circles of cats on ebay, you know that I am scraping the bottom of the barrel for ebay things 😀
Hopefully we will get more painters soon who will be able to paint most of the LP store items. That way Melody will have more time to paint ebay items and also make some new sculptures.
June 5, 2011 at 12:32 pm #847381Thanks for the explanation, Pam! That makes a lot of sense. 🙂
(Just anticipating the day the casting department gets going with Young PoadsTM…)
And have a great vacation!
June 5, 2011 at 7:11 pm #847402Eeeewrgh at the tiger SK, though I’m sure there’s enough tiger-love out there she’ll be mightily enjoyed….she’s just waaaay not my taste. I do think that flapcat with the interesting face markings and spots is really pretty however. 🙂
Thank you for sharing pics with us!
June 5, 2011 at 8:38 pm #847411Thanks for the explination Pam! I’m kind of curious which piece someone won and then saw something better they liked. That bengal fledgling is incredible though! Much prettier than the tiger ones.

It was just a general concern of theirs 🙂
June 6, 2011 at 12:30 am #847420I’ve had that happen w/ griffin chicks. I’ll buy like #2 and #3 was cuter or had purple eyes and worked w/ my griffin families better.
But I figure it’s the luck of the draw. I could have saved my pennies.:) I guess I have poor self control.

What’s the story with the zebra unicorn I sent?
Edit: Sorry, I just realized that sounded a little rude! I need to wake up fully before I use the internets…
I apologize if I came across that way. What I mean to say is… how is the unicorn doing? Has he grown his horn? I wanted to make sure you got the eBay words I sent. 🙂Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com
My art: featherdust.comJune 6, 2011 at 3:33 pm #847463I was wondering about the zebra unicorn too!
June 6, 2011 at 8:13 pm #847496No one said anything to me about a zebra unicorn, so unfortunately I have used up all our good Male Unicorn Horns! The zebracorn did arrive safely, but will have to scrounge for a horn.

Oh! I’m sorry. Did you get the ebay words? Maybe there was an email hiccup…

And what are those gorgeous DARK blue dragons?
December 22, 2011 at 10:17 pm #866875The orientals are Mars. They will probably get red or poppy jasper globes, or possibly tigerseye. We found a place that sells lots of really cool natural stone marbles, they look so much better in the orientals than dichroic.
The blue guys don’t have an official name yet, but they are similar to twilight (darker overall, no purple).
