Bingo! You guys are the best. π
Dragon87, do you have closer up shots of Pixie’s statue? Would they be in the member’s gallery?May 22, 2008 at 2:58 am #704740Here is the one I did of my old dog…Well, he was my ex’s. But I bought him as a 10 week old puppy for him in June of 1997. He sadly passed away of CHF just last year. π
And here is the wolf I painted…
The top pic is a pic of the original picture. Scott was laid out in just shorts on the couch when the picture was taken. So, to spare him, I cut him out. π
I also crossed the wolf with another pic, but I don’t have that one anymore, and he was much younger in it. πMay 22, 2008 at 3:22 am #704741You do LOVELY work!

May 22, 2008 at 3:24 am #704742That is beautiful! The wings being a different color is a very nice touch!
May 22, 2008 at 4:01 am #704743Beautiful work, for sure! Thank you!
I’ve got a couple of ideas, one is based on the coloring/pattern of 2 of my cats. Both are American Bobtails; one is a seal lynx point, the other is a chocolate lynx point. Both have blue eyes. The seal pt’s eyes are a deeper blue, like denim Lapis Lazuli. The chocolate lynx’s eyes are nearly an ice blue. They both have facial stripes in what’s called a mask. Their faces are darker and have stripes. I’m not sure if I want to give the griffin an orangey pink beak, though. π― Their fur shading around the eyes are a very thin line of deep chocolate, then a ring of cream, and then the “eyeliner” stripes kick in. Their ears are dark brown on top, nearly cream underneath. The coloring on their bodies on the topside is like a brown saddle, they fade back to a kind of a cocoa color on their legs, which have stripes. They’re bellies are light cream. The masks and the shaded fur on the “saddle” area have the lion’s share of ticking. So I’m thinking *most* of that is going to be hidden by the wings. I’m not sure just yet what I’m going to do for the backs of those wings, either. π Their legs are pretty neat; it’s like they’re covered in dark chocolate brown, frosted lightly by an almost silvery color. But you can still see the dark brown underneath.
I *think* I can get a fair amount of detailing, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to catch that whole ticking/shading, but I intend to try. If it gets to be too much for me to handle, y’all be hearing me scream. Just send brownies. π πOne more quick question! Do you guys paint the bottom of the piece?
May 22, 2008 at 4:10 am #704744Do you have pix of your furbabies? They sound like they look like our boy kitty, Loki. He is a lynx-point siamese. I can’t wait to see how you accomplish the ticking! Good luck!

May 22, 2008 at 12:25 pm #704745Yes, I paint the bottoms. Some don’t. Just depends on preference. I finish the whole peice, make sure it is dry, lay it on a soft towel witht he bottom tipped upward slightly and give it a single or double coat on the bottom. I do not clearcoat the bottom, just stick the felt pad on.
(It is easier for me to base in the undercoat color, then drybrush over the top with the next color, and make my way up to the tip color. Just an FYI for ticking. Maxx had a tan undercoat, black on the tips, and turned grey over time at the tips. π )
May 22, 2008 at 4:30 pm #704746So these come with the felt pad not attached, I take it? Interesting.
Thanks for the tips in the ticking; it sounds like exactly what I was looking for. I’m on my work pc right now, but when I get home, I’ll see if I can post a shot of at least one of my cats.

May 22, 2008 at 6:33 pm #704748NP, TDMum. The bobtails are colored just like the lynx pointed Siamese. Lillee is a seal and Whims is a chocolate. I think I also had posted small shots of them on another thread……If I find that, I’ll post the link. π

I missed those pix the first time, twin…they are adorable kitties! π
May 22, 2008 at 7:27 pm #704752Ah, yes…the red eyed devil cat look. π I seem to get that in every picture I take of my blue eyed cats.
Our Lillee is similar in color to your Loki, with a medium coat instead of short. She’s kind of more plush. But her coloring is the same. The do get darker as they age. When Whims was a kitten, he was all cream colored, and just the very edges of his ears were dark, along with the underside of his feet.
He’s gotten very dark in the last couple of years, along with very *LARGE*….he’s the resident 23 lb cat. I have a picture of him that I can post. I just need to sign off of this pc, and onto the home one, now that I’m back home….May 22, 2008 at 7:28 pm #704753Thank you! We think so too π It’s interesting to watch how the kitties coloring changes over the year…. Loki is much darker in coloring from the winter; we still have some snow here, he lightens up in the summer. At the moment he’s more of a carmel color on his body and his stripes are white…
