So the weirdest thing happend today. This is a real DUH story. Brase yourselves.
I bought 4 windstones from a gal last week. They arrived today. I had been fittling with the Faceless Wonder all day, and that stupid gem was really bugging me. I kept thinking “gosh, I hope I don’t slip and scratch it or break it, that would suck”.
Well, in that box of 4 new Windstones was a mama dragon. I was looking her over, and POP, her little gem fell out. 😯

DUH. REMOVE THE GEM. Then it won’t get damaged. Wouldn’t you know, one little POP and it came right off of Faceless. So, nwo that I have the gems safe in a little baggie where they won’t be destroyed or anything, I have a question.
What kind of glue should I use to put them back in place when I’m done?? 😀
Melody uses a white glue to replace them….like elmers…
a lot of others use superglue, but that can etch the jewel…
there are tons of glues out there that will work…just make sure you get one that dries clear….

I just wasn’t sure if there was any that worked best. Sometimes when I glue glass stuff, it doesn’t work out too well, and I’d hate to glue in the gem then loose it.
Another question. Would Windstone frown drastically if I *replaced* the gem on a *custom painted* full sized Windstone? I’m thinking, with Faceless, doing him REALLY dark, and with accenting gems, but if that crosses a line(I know the whole thing is frowned on, but I can’t restore him, not that skilled) but I thought I’d ask

but if it’s messed up and you put a new jewel in that’s up to you…I don’t think they would say “sure that’s great, do it” but it shouldn’t be a problem….it just comes down to the resale thing again…
but as long as everyone knows what you did…
as for the glue….they usually don’t just pop out…you have to want it to come out…
I used “future glue” on mine….it’s like super glue but doesn’t do the hazy etching stuff…

Mama’s just fell out. Faceless’s came out with no fuss at all. everyone else’s (I ran through and did a finger check haha) seems in there quite well. I think she was just doing me a favor my dropping hers, so I’d remove his. Sweet little thing, isn’t she?
I also removed the one from the mama I’m restoring, that took some fiddling, and there was some glue residue, but it all came out as well.
My ruby momma came minus one jewel. Karen sent me one, I used white glue and, tadah! no problem at all! I even use white glue to put my white momma back together – well, the pieces that I had.
I use white glue for almost everything.
White glue’s not good for wood, though. Yeah, I know, duh. Let’s not go there, ok?

Elmers you mean? I use it for most stuff too. My husband bought me gourilla glue once, to fix a resin. Man. That stuff is not that impressive, BUT, when you get a tiny iddy biddy bit on the lid, it will glue that lid on there so tight you’ll never be able to open it again. $7 in glue, and I only got to use it once 👿
I got a Windstone Triceratops on Ebay and it came with one of the horns broken. I got it for a really really good price, so I didn’t ask for a refund or anything. I just figure I’ll fix it. There was one big piece of the horn still in the bubble wrap, so I glued it on using Elmer’s white glue. It is on there good! I just need a little leftover hydrostone from when my hubby makes the next Fairy Fossil and I can resculpt the rest of it (or get him to do it – he’s way more talented than I am) and paint it.
Anyway, my point is that Elmer’s works great for repairing Windstones.

Okie dokie, sounds like Elmers’ in the consensise(sp?). Thanks guys!!
White glue does work well! I’m always careful with superglue, it tends to do weird things to polymers(I’m not sure what the backing of the gems is made of)
In regards to the repaint question, at this point all I can say as Windstone Staff is that they discourage it- any specific questions should be sent to John directly (this goes for any non-obbious legal questions), since he has direct contact with the Windstone lawyer. I believe he is trying to get some clearer guidelines for us (it just takes some time). 🙂
