March 3, 2008 at 3:28 pm #673735So do the hackers keep bidding up the price, or do they just set a really high price?
In either case, does Windstone take the last real bid or the first bid without hacker interference? That could really change the price of a piece!
March 3, 2008 at 3:31 pm #673736Geez, I was wanting to know what that ow would go for too….I couldnt afford him, but I still thought he was awesome. 👿

The ‘hacked’ ebay account bids a single, extremely high bid that pushes everyone else’s bids to maximum.
This is amazingly frustrated for both buyer and seller because:
– The buyer’s bid is pushed to maximum ‘unnaturally’
– The seller will never know if the hacker had not interfered, if another legit bidder may have come in and bit the item any higher.Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

This hacker set a REALLY high price in the last 15 seconds or so of the auction. I placed a large maximum bid $1520 at the 10 second mark and my bid was blown out of th water. It wasn’t until I went and looked at the winners feedback profile that I began to suspect it had been hacked. At first I was like umm okay apparently someone wanted him more than me. So I printed the bid history, I just faxed it to Windstone. Karen said she needed to talk to John about it and they needed the history.Looking for Blue Fawn Baby Kirin

I mean if your max bid was 1500, but the last real bid was 1000, that’s a big difference.March 3, 2008 at 11:27 pm #673742Phoenix wrote:So do you end up paying your max bid, or what the amount was before the hacker drove the price up?
I mean if your max bid was 1500, but the last real bid was 1000, that’s a big difference.I had the bid history so I only had to pay his actual sale price. The amount that outbid ddvm since ddvm had the highest bid before the hacker hit. I don’t care if everybody knows what he actually sold for but I don’t want to cause a problem for Windstone. I think that’s another problem for Karen. 😐 She has to go back and try to figure out what the actual sale price should be. Just another thing for her to do. I was lucky because the OW auction was fairly clear cut.
On a side note. I was thinking that maybe we can be of help to Windstone. Usually at least one of us is watching an auction on the weekends. Maybe if we captured the bid history of the weekend auctions at the auctions end, then if the auction gets pulled Windstone has something to work with. It won’t help if the real winner is a non forum member, but if they’ve bought before we forum members can usually figure out who the winner might be.

Sun Dragon Koi #3March 3, 2008 at 11:38 pm #673743Did anybody else catch this in their eBay Announcements for today?
“Protecting buyer’s identities as they bid on all auction-style listings
To protect the Community from this growing safety threat (Fake 2nd chance offers), we have made the decision to mask User IDs for bidders on all auction-style listings on eBay.com and Motors. This change will go into effect later this week. Even with all this history and need, we understand that masking User IDs on all auction-style listings is a significant change, and it this is not a step we are taking lightly. However, in light of today’s environment – and the damage fake email offers pose to our members and to overall buyer trust in the marketplace it’s imperative we act now to make this change.”
March 3, 2008 at 11:42 pm #673744What does that mean?

Sun Dragon Koi #3March 3, 2008 at 11:44 pm #673745It means that all bidders IDs are going to be masked, starting later this week. Even if the bid is $1.00, the bidder’s ID will be scrambled.
March 3, 2008 at 11:46 pm #673746setsunawolf wrote:What does that mean?
It means only the seller* will be able to see all the bidders names on auctions from now on, no matter how large or small the dollar amount may be.
*The person who places a bid will be able to see their name, but no other names.
March 3, 2008 at 11:51 pm #673747So we’ll still be able to see the bid history? The names will just be all messed up? This won’t actually solve the hacker problem though….I’m not even really sure it’ll solve the fake second chance offers.
