cool. yeah, it definately has some bacterial infection going on. I’ve had colds and sinus infections before..this one seems just a little odd.
mom went to the store to get ingrediants for the muled cider.October 19, 2007 at 4:49 pm #627627It does sound like an infection. I agree with everyone on that. You may need to go to the doctor, whether you have insurance or not. Your health is nothing to fool around with.
Hope you feel better soon.
October 19, 2007 at 4:52 pm #627628i agree with that. one of my mager stopping blocks is the use of antibiotics. I was on so manny antibiotics before the surgery that it was pretty devastating. Since my sister is looking at going to the docter, we are going to see what he says about her condition since we have the same thing.
October 19, 2007 at 6:54 pm #627629Poor thing, hope you and your sister feel better soon!! 😕

And antibiotics are horribly expensive.
A few years ago I came down with a particularly bad cough, which after a few days put my back out. I went to the doctor’s for pain killers and what-all, and she also prescribed antibiotics. When I went around to the pharmacy and they told me $100.00 I just about fell on the floor. Turned out the antibiotics were $75.00 of that, so I just didn’t get them, figuring doctors prescribe antibiotics like a side salad with a main dish.
So I spent literally a year recovering from what I guess was a mild form of pneumonia, and I was pretty miserable but was determined I must be getting better every day and that one day I would be fine.
But with green mucous thrown in the mix, I think even I would be seeing a doctor and borrowing off of friends to get something to avoid being THAT poorly.
October 19, 2007 at 8:42 pm #627631Koishii, I think the same thing is floating around here in the Northeast. Been sick since last Saturday here *blech*. Just getting my energy back. Uber bad sinus infection (drippy, clogged, green sinuses, sore throat from the dripping, coughing and hacking, stomach gets queasy from all the sinus gook going to tummy, sinus headache). Mom called the doctor on Monday, who phoned in a prescription (Mom had the same bug too). Worked for her, didn’t work for me. Wednesday, she took me into the doctor. Meds were switched to Augmentin (what I usually end up with because the lighter stuff doesn’t work for my sinus infections). 😡 He also kicked in some Zyrtec and another nasal spray from what I use. From now on, we’re just going to get me into the doctor. Then he can see my chart and just go straight for the augmentin (or something of comparable strength). He used to remember, but I guess because I don’t need to go in every 6-8 weeks since I started using a neti pot, I guess he doesn’t remember it as much as he used to.
I just started getting my voice back (from all the coughing and hacking) and only one ear is plugged (almost couldn’t hear for about 2 days). Missing my college reunion this weekend because of this bug 😥 I got a little bit of energy back today too. I don’t remember having one this bad either. The sinus pain was so harsh the other night I couldn’t sleep and was crying most of the night. Just shy of being painful enough to pass out from the pain. The only headaches I’ve ever had that bad were when I had severe migraines, prior to discovering it was related to a food allergy. I don’t want to even think about how bad it would feel if my pain tolerance wasn’t so high. 😯 This was not one of normal ones I get twice a year (Spring & Fall) when the seasons change and bugs my allergies.
October 19, 2007 at 8:58 pm #627632owe. i know all about sinus pain.
I’m going to give it a few more days. If this is something my body can fight off itself, I would rather do that. it would be more benificil for my immune system. I’ve been using saline salution to rinse out my sinus, gargling with warm salt water to clean out the back of my thraot and fight the bacteria that way, aged garlic, took one drop of aregino oil, and the muled cider is just awesome. I am going to leave that simmering over night so if i wake up i got something hot to drink and break up the phlem.October 19, 2007 at 9:19 pm #627633Oregano oil should help. Hopefully, it isn’t anything too bad. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

try adding a few drops of tea tree essential oil to a 1.5 oz bottle of saline spray. tea tree oil is a natural disinfectant and antibiotic. shake well and irrigate sinuses with it. it may sting a bit but that means it’s working.
for the sore throat, add a drop or two of lemon essential oil to a spoonful of honey, mix well and swallow. honey is a natural antibiotic and lemon oil is a good natural disinfectant. they both work to coat the throat and kill the bugs. do this several times a day.
add 5 or 6 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to a warm bath or hot water. in the bath, the oil will help loosen congestion and relieve aching muscles. in the hat water, drape a towel over your head and the bowl and inhale. the eucalyptus scented steam will help open the sinuses and allow them to drain.
you don’t want the rest of the family to get sick so use peppermint essential oil or tea tree oil to clean the surfaces of the home ie. doorknobs, countertops etc. peppermint oil is a great disinfectant.
if you are up to eating, the following recipe will literally help to burn the bug right out of you!
Hot Chicken
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
2 Tablespoons lite soy sauce
1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 Tablespoon water
2 Tablespoons cornstarchsauce
1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 Tablespoons water
2 Tablespoons dark soy sauce
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1 Tablespoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 Tablespoon cornstarch6 dried red peppers (the little ones)
broccoli florettes
chopped green onion
chopped roasted peanuts6 Tablespoons peanut oil divided in half
cut the chicken breasts into bight size pieces. marinate them in the soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, water and cornstarch.
cut the peppers into small pieces.
combine sauce ingredients and set aside.
place 3 Tablespoons peanut oil in a hot wok or frying pan and add the broccoli florettes. stir fry until tender but not mushy. set aside cooked broccoli in bowl.
put 3 Tablespoons peanut oil in wok and add the red pepper pieces. cook for 15 seconds. add the chicken pieces marinade and all and cook over high heat, stirring constantly for 10 minutes. add the broccoli and cook another 2 minutes. add the sauce mixture and cook until it thickens.
top with chopped green onion and chopped roasted peanuts and serve over hot rice.
a word of caution. every time we cook this we set off the smoke detectors in the house so open a window or two. when you add the peppers to the hot oil the resulting smoke will make everyone in the house cough, choke and have watery eyes. this is supposed to happen! the peppery smoke combined with the heat/hot of the dish will literally burn the nasty bugs out of you!
this dish is not so spicy that no one will eat it. my 11 year old twins love it and we have it about once a week! hope this helps 😀 😀 😀

p.s. please do try to see your doctor. these are only stop gap measures and will only provide some relief. let me know how it goes!

October 19, 2007 at 9:52 pm #627635thanks! that sounds really great. I did not think of tea tree oil in the saline salution. that is worth a try.
Yeah, i knew about the honey. I actualy have some manuka honey, which is really potent and manuka honey throat candies. they make your whole mouth go numb.
October 19, 2007 at 10:48 pm #627636Yuck! That sounds horrible! I hope you feel better soon. Sore throats are the worst. I hate waking up in the morning with that painful scratchy feeling in the back of my throat. You got something nasty though. Sounds like something is going around for sure. I guess I better start taking Airborne.
Koishi, another thing that helps me get over colds/flus faster is Cold-Ezze. I think I spelled that right. Anyway, they are fruit flavored lozenges that contain zinc, to help boost your immune system. Just thought I’d mention it since you seem to have a lingering bug there. Get well soon! 🙂
October 20, 2007 at 3:27 am #627637Jeez, Koishii, that sounds like an awful bug. 🙁 I don’t like that it moved in so fast! Nasty thing.
Twindragons’ cider recipe sounds wonderful! And much nicer than our family remedy for colds. But if you want to try it, I’ve had good luck with this:
Mandarin Orange Spice tea (Celestial Seasonings)
Vitamin C powder (try Trader Joe’s)
Honey, lotsBrew up a mug of tea. While it’s nice and hot, add anywhere from 1/4 tsp to 3/4 tsp of vitamin C powder. It’s horribly sour and a little bitter. Now add 2 to 3 tablespoons of honey (to taste) and stir well. Drink it as hot as you can stand.
The vitamin C helps strip the crud out of your throat and gives any virus hanging out there a nasty surprise. The honey soothes the throat and is also good in general for respiratory infections. The drawback, of course, is that the vitamin C makes one pee like a racehorse. So drink lots of water too! 🙂
Good luck! I sure hope you and Sasha are feeling a lot better soon. If you can, go for some antibiotics: Augmentin is excellent, and Zithromax is too. I’ve been the run with a nasty green gooey bug that wouldn’t quit, and antibiotics really truly were worth the cost. I know reaching for antibiotics is sometimes unnecessary, but I sure don’t like the way this bug jumped in so fast and is now hanging on. It may need a good thumping to dislodge it.
October 20, 2007 at 5:37 pm #627638Any improvement on the nasty bug front? Hope so 😀

October 20, 2007 at 8:42 pm #627640Take acidofilus when you take antibiotics. It’ll help maintain your normal flora and your energy. I have to take it when I’m on antibiotics (which is very rare – whew) otherwise, I get yeast infections.
