November 8, 2009 at 12:01 am #790599Speaking of new cameras, LadyFirebird, what did you get and how do you like it? The picture of the Amythest Hatching Dragon looks particularly good for being so close up. π Mine just bit the dust, so I’ll have to start checking into a new one. π‘
Can anyone recommend one they really like; or for that matter, things to stay away from? I would like to start a thread on this, because I need help! What section would be best to post this? π
November 8, 2009 at 12:13 am #790600That is hilarious!! π

Well the camera I got is a Canon PowerShot A1100 IS with 12.1 MP. Just got it and am fooling around with it–seems easy enough. Have it on auto mode and for me, it takes decent pictures–I didn’t quite get the circle of Poads just right and tried to pop them up in my photoshop. I got this camera with my credit card points–that’s how I made my decision, so not sure what retail would be–I’m guessing not that much. Under $300.
So far so good–need to get better batteries and memory card that can hold more pictures. Just have the basics here but for points, it isn’t too bad. I’m technologically challeneged but I was able to install the software, register the product, take the pictures, transfer them in my computer and upload them on my photo host site.
Everyone can feel free to add their comments and recommendations as far as camera go.
November 8, 2009 at 2:12 am #790603Well, mine is an old Sony Mavica. It was the latest and greatest at the time: it can actually switch between floppy disks and the original memory sticks, and it takes 1.8 MP pictures! π³
I haven’t paid much attention to cameras since I got it, obviously a very long time ago, so it’s like going from horse and buggy days to a race car. I know more MPs is better, that I want a zoom feature, and that I don’t want a teeny, tiny one that is easy to drop. I definitely like the sound of that “auto” setting you mention. The more automated, the better; I am not a photographer, and I hate taking pictures. Other than that, I have no clue as to what to look for and how to start narrowing down the field. π I would definitely welcome some more input. π
November 8, 2009 at 3:00 am #790604I remember being up in the air like you are syn and I posted on the Community forum. Some people gave some decent advice but when I got my credit card points statement and saw I could get a camera–well I felt it couldn’t hurt and at least I know what to look for the next time.
The one I have is pretty nice from what people tell me–I copied and pasted the following from canon’s website:
Slim body and 4 bright color options: Gray, Blue, Pink and Green.
12.1-megapixel digital camera with 4x Optical Zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer.
DIGIC 4 Image Processor has evolved Face Detection Technology that tracks the faces of moving subjects and lets the shooter enter the frame seamlessly with the Face Detection Self-timer.
Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 18 predefined shooting situations.
Large, high-quality 2.5-inch LCD for easy on-camera viewing.
I saw this camera for sale on Amazon for about $150–not bad!
Post in Community section and check out Canon’s website. Hope this helps! π
November 8, 2009 at 4:30 am #790605Thanks, LadyFirebird; it does help. Canon is a good name and will definitely be on my list, but there are so many different models that it’s hard to wade through them all. It looks like cameras and cell phones are in a competition to see which can come up with the most choices. π I hadn’t been planning to get a new camera, so I haven’t been researching them. I want to arm myself with some info before I get to a store and am hounded by salespeople trying for bigger commissions and extended warranties. It’s a good time to buy with all the sales that will be coming up though.
I didn’t realize they had cameras in colors now. I hope they don’t have any in Amethyst. I’d probably BIN and ask questions later! π

HOLY FRIJOLES, BATMAN…that’s a lot of fuzzies! I can foresee the infestation only growing too…. π
