I saw this in your livejournal earlier this morning. I’m sorry Shadow is missing, possibly taken. Good luck with the search.

I agree with the flyers. Put them up everywhere, notify vets in the area and only say ‘reward offered’.

If he was stolen and the thief wants money, they’ll possibly bring him back for the ‘reward’ (which can be, oh, cookies or a huge expression of gratitude).

He came from the shelter, right? If he’s microchipped, vets can also scan for this chips if they get a new patient in that looks like Shadow’s description.

Good luck, and godspeed to Shadow in coming home.

I wish you luck with your search. We had the sweetest cat named Buster and he just dissappeared one day. Posters went up, but he was never found. He was such a love bug, so he probably followed someone home.

Definitely put up posters everywhere and offer a reward. Check animal control, the humane society, and local dog rescue groups…also, I’d put a lost dog ad in the paper. You never know….

Sorry it took me so long to come back…our internet went down yesterday…and I was dogsearching…but here’s what happened.

Well, diligence pays. I’d spent a good portion of the night searching for shadow…and then I stayed up with the front door open just in case he happened to wander back. I eventually went to bed…for what seemed to be nothing more than a nap, before getting up and sending a very sad Donovan off to school. Well….then I got the babies fed and ready for searching…and decided I would come home when I found the dog…or it was time for Donovan to get off the bus. I took Chris’s cell phone and was equipped with the number for the shelter, so I could call and see if there’d been a stray reported. To be honest…in this neighborhood…I wasnt particularly hopeful, being as everything that’s not nailed down or locked up tends to get stolen. I know we’ve lost a couple bikes, a couple lawn mowers, a weedeater among other things that had been left outside…including the top half of our snowman one year..there were clear sled tracks up to it…and sled tracks away…why steal a snowman?? So my mind just sort of assumed that the dog had most likely been stolen as well..but I wasnt gonna give up, not with Donovan so broken hearted. Anyway, after alot of driving..on my second call to the shelter..they tell me that someone HAD found Shadow, and was holding him at their house so I could pick him up. I called the guy, and he said at first he thought Shadow might just be another stray (which I admit…there are alot of in our neighborhood)…but after bringing him in the house it became obvious he wasnt, because he’s spoiled…lol.

Apparently Shadow somehow got off the lead, and went to have fun in the small creek behind our house..and so became sort of stray looking as he was covered in mud. The fellow who found him lives on the opposite side of the creek, and his property is pretty close to ours, although not visible because of trees. He sees Shadow, puts him in the back of his SUV…and goes driving to see if he can see anyone dog searching…while I’m in my car…on the other side of our neighborhood….dogsearching. Obviously we dont cross paths…and he takes Shadow home, tries putting him outside in his fenced yard…where Shadow escapes again by undoing the latch..but he catches him and brings him inside. He gives Shadow a bath…and because Shadow is restless, whining and wanting to go home…he lets Shadow sleep in the bed with him, and gives him an enormous bone chew toy. The man fell absolutely in love with shadow, and we now have a dogsitter if ever we need one….so I suppose everything turned out ok in the end.

They say noting happen for no reason. Oviously it was meant for you guys to meet. Now you have a sitter that’s great! You know he will be well treated there if ever the opportunity arises.

lol..yeah, I’m really glad we found him…I was pretty frantic to find Shadow as I was worried that the longer he was gone, the less chance I’d have of finding him….Go figure, I’m pulling my hair out with worry, and the dog is being spoiled and practically on vacation. πŸ™„ πŸ™„ πŸ˜†

What a great ending. And finding out you have such a caring neighbor in a neighborhood like that is even better πŸ˜† I’m happy all turned out so well for you.
