Apparently my dad told his work friends how crazy I am about dragons and they made me this as an early (sort-of) birthday gift and I just love it! It’s made of scrap steel. I thought it was so cool I had to share with fellow dragon lovers.
September 5, 2015 at 8:15 pm #934290Thanks everyone! It was drawn in a CAD program, laser cut, and welded together from two pieces. It took about an hour for them to make.
@ Bodine – I could have my dad ask if they’d make more. How slightly different?
@ Adaneth – These are rough measurements, but it’s roughly about 5 1/2″ H (from bottom to the top of the wing) x 7 1/4″ L (snout to the longest wingtip). The oval base is about 5 1/4″ L x 3″ W. It’s comparable to a fledgling, but with flared wings.
Thank you.It doesn’t have to be different,I was just thinking you might would want yours unique is all.I love it.Congrats on a wonderful gift.
Oh, I see. I don’t mind if they make other pieces just like mine. 🙂 It would be easier for them to make (IF they make more) since the pattern is already programmed. I should know one way or the other late next week.
September 8, 2015 at 12:50 am #934323That’s a really nicely done piece! It’s such a nice gesture of your father’s friends/coworkers!

I wonder if one took a light of some sort and set it in front of the dragon, if it would cast a dragon shaped shadow on the wall/ceiling?
What an amazing idea! I, too, am curious. 🙂
Wonderful work, and that’s so thoughtful of them to make for you!

September 15, 2015 at 1:46 am #934469So the guy that makes these steel figurines is still debating on whether or not he will make more dragons like mine. He says, “Maybe, but it’ll be awhile.” He makes these figurines for fun and friends.
In the mean time, he’s done some practice pieces. An oriental dragon and a wyvern-like dragon.
These two (the only two I have) are $10 a piece if anybody is interested (shipping included within the U.S.). Be aware these are made from unfinished steel and have pokey points so if you have mischievous little ones, fur babies or human kiddos, you must have a place you can put these figurines where they can’t reach them. The wyvern-like piece measures roughly 9 3/4″ W (at the widest part) X 8 H. The oriental piece measures roughly 7″ W (at widest part) X 7″ H. Both pieces weigh just over 13oz.
Feel free to PM with interest or questions.
