Hi there folks. I know this isn’t supposed to be a sale forum for art. But after an accident today in my stained glass studio, I am out a very, very expensive and rare piece of glass, and needing funds to replace some of the other glass that I broke that I use in my projects. In other words, I need some help. So, here is the deal.
I made three eagle feathers today, as seen in the picture below:
I am asking $20 each. They are made of white spectrum waterglass, and brown spectrum granite glass, and are all approximately 10 and a half inches in length. These are *all* hand made, by me. I can solder on jump rings so you can hang them up, and I can also patina the silver finish to black upon request.
I also have a gryphon circle I finished today that I might be convinced to part with for the right price. It’s roughly 11 inches in diameter. (Don’t know the exact diameter)
I only have three of the feathers to sell so far. I *can* and *will* make more, and in custom colors upon request. For an extra $10 per feather, I will roll out some of the really good and expensive glass (Bullseye, Yougiogheney, Ouroborous… etc) I have hoarded in my collection.
Dunno if anyone will want these. But I figured what the heck. Christmas is coming. Some people like this kinda stuff to give as presentsd.

October 28, 2007 at 1:00 pm #629880Oh wow! I loove stained glass and wish I could afford it right now. If my situation changes I’ll pm you! 🙂
October 28, 2007 at 6:34 pm #629881awww, sorry to hear about your studio!! 🙁 I hope you (or anyone else!) didn’t get hurt at all, and I sorry to hear about the breaking of rare glass…I suppose when there’s an accident in a studio full of glass, there really is going to be quite an accident…0_o (do you cut yourself a lot doing stained glass???)

Well, when you play with untempered glass (That most stained glass is) it’s not a matter of if you get cut, but when you get cut. Cuts and knicks are pretty much part of the game when working with glass. Some of the glass shards are so sharp, you can brush up against them and cut yourself open and not even know it until you realize you are dripping blood everywhere (been there, done that). We call it giving blood-sacrifices to the ever-fickle glass gods. 😀 And unfortunately, I didn’t get away unscathed this time. Got several nasty cuts while removing some of the glass shards, and got several glass shards wedged in my skin (never fun to remove). While I’m upset over the loss of the rare glass, I’m really more concerned about the regular project glass that I am now devoid of. I’m now out that glass, and that is what was helping me fund my studio. I now can’t get any supplies until I sell some of this production stuff. 🙁
And yes, I make my own frames from a simple solder job like you can see in the pics, to zinc borders, to custom wood framing. It’s a lot of work.
October 28, 2007 at 11:44 pm #629884Oh, I’m sooo sorry you got hurt! Have you ever needed stitches or have they been thankfully small blood sacrifices so far? Oh, and do you ever take comissions?

Well, nothing has required stitches yet *knocks ferverently on wood!*. Pretty much the cuts I get heal quickly. I think it’s because the glass is so sharp, it makes a really clean cut. I mean, I’ve had nastier cuts off hacksaws.
Yes, I do take commissions! However, the only problem with glass commissions that I send to someone through the mail is size limitations. I do not feel comfortable trying to send something bigger than about a square foot through the mail. It really sucks to open a package and find the glass you were hoping for in a bunch of itty bitty pieces (I’ve ordered raw glass online before, and had this happen. Haven’t had this happen with one of my stained glass pieces, yet. *knocks on wood again*). Anything bigger I have to make a custom crate for out of plywood (I don’t like to charge for custom crating, anyways). For whatever reason, glass while in a sheet is much stronger than after it gets out in a piece of stained glass. They do not survive any sort of twisting or torquing well, which is why I have to make custom crates for big pieces. But smaller pieces I’ve had go through the mail with good success.
Unless that is of course, you want to commission a big piece, and pick it up. That is always fun, and I get to meet the people in person who are taking my glass home! 😀
October 29, 2007 at 12:13 pm #629886I was thinking some special order feathers in the future, maybe an ammonite or a general idea of my dragon snail..once I have money again that is. 😀
October 29, 2007 at 1:40 pm #629887Really pretty work, Dark_Zorse. When I move into my own house, I’ll remember to commission some window decorations from you. But as is, my windows are already full.
