It’s starting to be spring here! None of our trees are leafed out yet except fruit trees. The grass is turning green again and my perennials are just starting to think about coming back.
My apple tree is saturated with blossoms! I only hope we don’t get a late freeze. Last year we had a deep freeze in May and it killed the apple tree back… no apples last year.

It’s full of honey bees! Hundreds! This is a big deal because we didn’t see any honeybees at all last year, which is scary if you think about it. I was very happy to see them. The tree smells heavenly!

Dormant moss in the woods, it will green up soon.

The Mayapples are starting to come up!

If you were tiny and lived under a Mayapple….

      Wild leeks! So delicious.

      Yuuuuum.

Things are just starting to come out in my yard. I think I’ll need to wait another week or so before I can share.

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I don’t think so! Wild leeks taste like the cross between a green onion and very strong garlic!
They make you smell terrible! Yuuum!! XD

Foxfeather, my yard looked like that a few days ago as well. It snowed two days ago!

The Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) is pretty cool. Keeps most of it’s leaves in the winter too. Did you mean Azalea? Azalea flowers are much smaller than Southern Magnolia flowers. I’m such a bad gardener that I can’t even keep azaleas alive. 😀

Yeah…I meant Azalea. 😳 I gotta stop posting late at night. 😈 I am usually so tired by the time I get here to the forums, I wonder if I make sense at all. 😕

Damnit! Well, here’s to a couple hundred dollars in parts for all my filters. I guess I shouldn’t complain…I have 2 Fluval cannister filters (The biggest you can get. Now known as the 305 and 405. Mine are about 10 years old though, and I guess I should just be happy they haven’t needed parts before now. 😕 ) and a Tetra UV sterilizer. The bulb for the sterilizer runs about $45 in brick and mortar stores, I got it for $31 and some change from Big Al’s online pet supply. But, I already bought the replacement impellers for $25 each at the store! 🙄 I could have gotten them for $10 and change at Big Al’s!!! GAH! Plus new tubing, and the pieces that attach the hoses to the cannister…Then stock up on food, and filter pads (Always having to run last minute to get those!) and carbon, salt, ammo chips…Booyah! $200 gone in a flash…I so wanted to replace my Ruby OW who is a light ruby with a darker one…Now I am S.O.L. 😕
I love my fish and they are worth every penny. 8)

Owch WSC, I know how that is. I had to replace my big Rena Filstar last year, and right now I am scrapping together pennies to replace my 10+ year old light system for my planted tanks. Super expensive to do it right, so it’s taking me several months. I’m sorry you had to replace your filters, but honestly 10+ years for a fluval is really good! You took great care of it. I used to get them returned, broken, with less than a year or two’s worth of use. x_x Way to go in keeping your tanks awesome!

Just out of curiosity, why do you run the UV system?

Actually, the only thing really wrong with them is the one little magnetic impeller assembly! I know, it is a pain when they go down, but that $25 each for impellers is a bunch less than $200=+ for each new filter!
Jen, at one time I had 3 twenty-nine gallons, 2 ten gallon feeder goldfish tanks, a 125 and a 55 gallon going. 😈 Talk about weekly cleaning!!! The Rena’s look really nice though.
What types of plants do you grow if you don’t mind me asking? I am really into the Jungle Val and Onions. Most everything else the Koi eat. 😡 And what they don’t get Larry, Curly and Moe the algae eaters get. I did find out that ferns live well with those fish though. I love the Amazon Swords, but until I get Casper into a pond…I have a feeling that there is no way I will get those back into my tank again. 😕
My dream plant is a Madagascar Lace…But I don’t know that I have the patience to raise one, and they are so expensive!

The impeller assemblies are almost always the things to go on most canister filters. One say I took apart every canister that we sold to educate myself and make better recommendations to customers. I learned a lot about the ‘quality’ some manufacturers make their impeller assembly out of!

It’s possibly easier to ask what plant I have not kept! Here is a photo that probably says it better.
