I have been sent some pretty pictures of flowers and such by forum members, and thought it might be a neat topic, hopefully I haven’t overlooked one already! Since spring is in the air, and we are venturing outside to tend to nature, lets post some pictures of what you are greening your life with! Maybe not what you had in mind:
That snake is like four+ foot long! It definately lives in my yard – I’ve seen it drinking from the little pond, way cool.
Around here, the Lilac Bushes and Tulips are finished blooming 🙁 BUT, summer flowers are popping up all over! I used to not like to pick pretty flowers and bring them in, but I have learned thru the years that the reason I am growing them is to ENJOY them, and they die outside or inside, and actually picking the blooms from the lilac bushes helps the bush! There is a reason I collect pulled/stretch glass vases, after all!

And those flowers are so lovely! I can’t even keep a tomatoe plant alive… 😡
April 26, 2010 at 11:57 pm #812867What you’ve got there is a Western Ribbon Snake! They are non-venomous, and eat frogs and minnows if they can find them. Maybe that’s what he’s been doing in your water! 😀
April 27, 2010 at 12:01 am #812868Anonymousoh eh? I thought it was a garden snake!! We don’t have frogs, but do get toads – and minnows not unless you mean OMG BABY GOLDFISH! :O 🙁 :[ but LOL It is natures own way to thin out the overstock! Cool Talona, thanks for looking that up!
April 27, 2010 at 12:01 am #812869Also, they eat slugs! Good for a gardener, right? 🙂

I say there might be a chance of that.. >.<
April 27, 2010 at 12:10 am #812871AnonymousAnd oh, last year we had a Big White Egret visit my little backyard pond. I didn’t notice fish missing but figured there were way too many to count, and it was welcome. The cool thing about this bird is my brother put in a little pond and lives like a half mile away – and I watched this bird fly off while I was talking on the phone to his wife, and in a couple minutes she says ‘oh wow, this huge white bird just landed next to the pond’ LOL Smart bird, visiting my relatives!!
A little boring Youtube video I made of my fish breeding awhile back, in 2008 – last year 2009 I (and every person locally I know who has a fishpond) had a major die off of fish and the only reason I saved what I have now is I frantically caught and transferred them all into a tiny pond of FRESH water:
April 27, 2010 at 12:12 am #812872That’s really cool!!!!! We have ground hogs, and foxes and skunks… >.< If I were ever fast enough, I'd get a picture of the fox.. but I never am.. haha.
April 27, 2010 at 1:31 am #812873Cool! I want a black koi, but for some reason they are really hard to come by. 3 years ago, they were all that were left all the time. 🙄 I’ll have to see if I can get Casper and Sonny to cooperate to shot a shot of them. 🙂 If I can I will post it, and a pic of Magnolia when it was in bloom. I have peak lilac blooms right now, and my Azalea is just swinging into bloom. 8)
April 27, 2010 at 1:37 am #812874Beautiful flowers and green stuff. 🙂 I am totally jealous. I live in an apartment on the third floor with a full south facing balcony that kills even cactus. Sadly space is a premium were I live so I have no chance of having any kind of yard unless I become wealthy 🙁 I will have to placate myself by looking at your pretty flowers 😀 It’s so hard though I grew up on a farm with wide open spaces and my grandmothers rose gardens…le sighh. Grow flowers for the rest of us!

Yup, I’m with you. We live in a tiny condo in the middle of the city, all we get are skunks and raccoons…and even, then only at night. Though we do have a lot of squirrels on the hospital grounds behind us.
April 27, 2010 at 4:12 am #812876oooh, i’m going to have to post some pics of my garden tomorrow! i don’t get much in my yard as far as wildlife. the occasional squirrel, duck, and the neighborhood dogs ( 😡 that’s a whole rant in itself!) is about it. i live in suburbia but my heart longs for the country, lol. i’m soooo tempted to fill in our swimming pool and take out the lawn to extend the garden.. hehe. but my husband won’t have it!
let’s see some more pics!
April 27, 2010 at 4:21 am #812877Ok, here are a couple pics of around my yard, and of the two Koi I have inside for now. 🙂
Sonny
Casper
A few of my Crocuses
I will have to get more pics of what is blooming now though. It’s times out so I have flowers all year long around here.
Sorry about the dirty tank glass in the shot of Sonny. I love German scaled Koi! I also love ghost koi! But I still want a black one. lol Casper absolutely HATES having his picture taken. I have been trying for a year now to get a good picture of him. I think he’d have to be dead to have that happen. He has a beautiful peach and green sheen to his scales along the dorsal area the camera doesn’t pick up. Someone once refered to him as a “green line” Koi, but he isn’t really that color.April 28, 2010 at 4:34 am #812878here’s what i’ve been hard at work with lately….
seeds that i planted about a month ago.. lots and lots of herbs. calendula and butterbur here.
my little helper!
the fountain and ivy geraniums
poppies!! i love poppies!!
eeee… can’t go wrong with columbines.
my favorite spot for tea/wine and a book. the wisteria is so beautiful this time of year.. missed taking pics when it still had all its glorious purple flowers. excuse the ugly plastic adirondack chairs… i am shopping around for a cute little wrought iron cafe table and chairs! 😀 -
