        This morning I was lying in bed slowly waking up when I realized I was hearing bird song that I hadn’t heard since last spring and summer. The family finally figured it out — it was the red-winged black bird! There was another that took some doing to identify – the meadowlark *slaps forehead* so even though we’ve still got tuns of snow on the ground and more expected today, it must be starting to be spring! Yay!!!! My gram’pa taught me this rhyme like half a billion years ago…

        Spring has sprung,
        the flowers rizzed;
        I wonder what
        this white stuff is?!?!

        That popped up another one from my gran’ma; she sang it all the time…

        I am happy today for the sunshine,
        for the skies of gray or blue.
        For within my heart is a song of love;
        I’ll live, I’ll work, I’ll do!

        No cloud can cast a shadow
        over courage such as mine.
        For I’ll sing this song as I go along,
        I’ll live, I’ll work, I’ll do!

        Funny what things, sounds, smells, etc. will pop memories up! I’d like to hear some of your memories from folk that mean a lot to you!

        That is so kewl!

        No retuning creatures as of yet here in New England, but…It is 52 outside, and raining. I love the smell of damp earth. (rain has washed away patches of snow in places) The last time I got to smell that was way back in November. ^_^

          It was raining all yesterday, then last night it started to snow, we have had the weirdest weather this year. 😕

            I can always tell when spring is near because you can’t hear yourself think in our yard because of all the noisy frogs! 😆

              The smell of blueberries ALWAYS reminds me of when I was little and living at my grandma’s house. My dad was a young single dad when I was little so I spent most of my time with my gramma. She had gotten me a tube of blueberry scented lipgloss that I wore DAILY as a child, so now the scent gives me the warm fuzzies!! 🙂

                This little gem was in HIGHLIGHTS magazine a long, long time ago:

                Spring, Spring, beautiful Spring,
                All the birds are on the wing.
                My, my, how absurd,
                I thought the wings were on the bird!

                Obviously, it stuck in my head – probably forever! 🙂

                  The smell of lilac is always feels like the first of summer to me. Spring is just the green smell when all the buds come out. And fall is always that late September 2:00am, full-moon smell (so hard to describe). And winter is fresh, warm sheets with purring cats and a good book (which is what I’ll be back to after this). 😀

                    Spring? What’s that? It was STILL snowing yesterday. It has to be some kind of record this year. $42 million snow removal budget for Edmonton – lonnnnnnng gone.

                            We had snow, too. It was just the sound of birdsong that we hadn’t heard since last summer that made me think of spring. I’m a California girl and I’m really tired of the cold and the snow and really, really miss the ocean 😳
