DarkLady.. what? All horses have color on their irises.. usually brown but paints are known to have blue.. albinos are the only ones with pink eyes.

I agree…Except horses don’t carry albinoism. They’ll be double dilute with blue eyes, but no pink eyes in horses.

The picture could be any number of breeds. Mustang to pony… Hard to tell without full body confirmation shot.

Well it looks like I have a lot of catching up to do with the forum!! I think I will do more research on this horse. Unfortunately, the source of the picture didn’t have a full body shot. 🙁

Welcome back. Tell us about your trip.

The trip was so fun!! I definitely want to go back! I have a bunch of pictures on my myspace (http://www.myspace.com/mrswennerstrom) just click on the honeymoon folder. If I were to tell you of everything that happened, I think my post would be too long! But my favorite part was when KC and I were able to feed and pet the dolphins, and I really liked Medieval Times. Our knight was the white one, and it was fun to cheer for him! OOhhh…we also went snorkeling in the Bahamas, and the water was very clear! We saw many colorful fish, and we were able to feed them. They were so close that I was able to touch a couple. fishy…. 😯
I was shocked to see how many new threads there were when I came back! You guys stayed busy!!
And I guess that Melody and the crew painted a few more grand unicorns, so I a hoping that the black male pegasus is next!! :squeak:

I can’t access Myspace because it is blocked, but if I find a different computer then I will try to look at them. Meanwhile if you could post a couple of here, that would be great. It sounds like tons of fun. I want to go to Medieval Times in Cali. The only thing I have seen like that is in Vegas. Yep, there are probably tons of stuff you missed and tons of posts you have to catch up on. 😀

Ok, I will soon, but I have over 300 pictures, so I think I will have to sift through some of them in order to post!

Actually, Lippizaners aren’t the only horses born dark that turn grey/white. Very few- almost none, and they’re a very specific rare mutation- foals are born white. You can pretty much bet that any grey or white horse you see of any breed was born a darker color and turned white. White is called grey even if the horse has become totally white, and is sort of like a color overlaid on the horse’s true color. Foals that will become grey are often a little darker/duskier in tone than others that will remain their birth color (interesting- black horses are also not born black, but a mousy grey color. True black newborns will almost always grey out). There will usually be a few white hairs near the eyes if you look. As his coat sheds out, his face will get progressively lighter- that’s where it starts. Then the body lightens, with many horses developing a lot of white in their manes and tails, others staying darker there. Some also develop a dappling pattern. (You can tell a roan, which has a grey or pinkish[from a red base color] body, from a grey at the grey or pinkish stage by the white face on the grey and the dark face on the roan.) Some horses grey very quickly, and will look white by the time they’re 1-2 years. Others may still be very dark into their 20’s.

No true albino with pink eyes has ever been reported in horses, according to scientific literature.

Sorry for the novel; I grew up around Arabians, for whom grey is one of the most common colors. My family still has them.
I’d guess that the horse in the photo is a perlino, possibly one of the Paso breeds. They have heavy manes like that (as do Andalusians); they also have the palomino/buckskin dilution gene (Andalusians don’t I think). Homozygous dilutes (perlinos and cremellos) usually have blue eyes and light skin I think, though that gene isn’t in ‘my’ breed, so I’m no expert.

Ok, here are some pictures of our trip. Keep in mind-I looked through about 400 pictures to bring you 40 of them! Phew! I hope you enjoy!

it looks like you had a GREAT trip. congratulations

Wow thanks for doing that. There are some great pictures. I love the penguin one and it was so neat to see all of those animals. I really like the pictures of the knights and the castle was really cool. I noticed in a couple of pictures it showed someone fishing. Where was that at and what is the second fish?

My husband and I were fishing on a pier at a beach called Lauderdale by the Sea. I think the pier was called Continental Pier. The second fish that we caught is a puffer fish. He started to blow up as we pulled him up, but he deflated-which I think saved his life. We just cut him loose, and he swam off! 😀 I used to own puffer fish, but not salt water puffer fish. They lived in brackish water. We caught about four or five fish total, but those two were the prettiest!

What does the puffer fish feel like? Did you get to eat the other fish or did you just let them go? Is there a difference between salt water puffer fish and the other puffer fish besides the salt water?

Yes, we let all of the other fish go. I couldn’t bear to eat them because they are too pretty! Umm..haha..if YOU want to touch the puffer fish you can. Personally, I think it would be unpleasant! 🙂 I took one look at the spikes and I knew we better not try and touch it!

I have a vague knowledge on puffer fish, but what I do know is that there are salt water puffer fish, and ones that live in brackish water. Brackish means that they live in part saly water and part fresh water. I used to know the exact scale as to how much salt is added, but it is not nearly as salty as pure salt water. I owned a figure eight puffer fish and a green spotted puffer fish. Here are pictures of the two:

The figure eight puffer has a figure eight looking mark on it’s back, so that’s where the name comes from. They are so cute! They also eat a wide variety of food like bloodworms and krill. And also, you can’t have them living in pairs. Only by themselves or with three or more because they tend to nip eachother’s fins. If there are three or more, there are too many for them to pick on, so they generally leave eachother alone. So cute!

I know more about them than I do salt water puffers, so there is the gist of my knowledge!
