Ok, This is a tad different, but believe it or not I can honestly say these Ladies are friends of mine. They are very patient with my questions ( no I’m not joining a convent) and I’d do whatever I could to help them as they would for us. I’m not pushing anything on anyone nor would they. ( ok, maybe hand-dipped beeswax candles ) π Figured there might be something in their catalog some of us might like. If you do like something and order tell Mother Pelegia I sent ya. π

I know I shouldn’t be so reticent in sharing my beliefs but I’ve been burned before (still not an excuse, i know)… So I am hesitant and generally ‘save’ such discussions until the friendship is solid and I’m safe from ridicule π³

No one person should ever be judged for their beliefs. I don’t judge my mother, yet I believe in God, and do not attend church, she does. You can pray anywhere, and everywhere…He listens just as good when I am on my back porch. But then again, my church is more into money than most… π‘ Maybe that is why I don’t go anymore. π (I’ve noticed my mother has cut back on her activity with the church too. I think she is upset about the money interest of our church too. :scratch: )
I won’t ask you questions, but nor will I judge you for your beliefs either! 8)May 24, 2010 at 2:42 pm #815672Personally, I like talking to people of differents beliefs. You broaden your horizon and personally I see that God takes care of His own and that is anybody who is trying to do the right thing in this world. None of us is perfect but we try. There are numerous stories I’ve heard of different individuals of different faiths that have seen mircales worked in their own lives. Sorry, I can’t go along with individuals who think their religion is the one and true one and everyone else is going to come to an awful end for eternity! So I definitely don’t judge anyone by their beliefs! π And Laurie, go ahead and make the suggestion of making fudge to the good sisters! I’ve seen other orders do.
May 24, 2010 at 5:49 pm #815673Aww Bec, you know I would never make fun of you or ridicule. All’s good. Loveses ya. π
Shoot, I’m so open-minded you can see right thru. (my hubby says that’s because it’s empty) XD XD π
May 25, 2010 at 4:41 am #815674Awww, is this what you were worried about Laurie? Don’t be. π
May 25, 2010 at 10:56 pm #815675No worries, Laurie π and thankies guys for being my friends – no matter what! So, since I don’t need people thinking I’m part of cult or something π³ I’ll let y’all know that I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, other wise know as the Mormons. Silly to be reticent about it, I know, but going to Church and having to run a gauntlet every Sabbath does take it’s toll after a while :nea: and to have friendships end because of our ‘cult’ or ‘non-christian’ status is really, really hard and it hurts. So far me boyohs haven’t experienced any of that. Roddy and I have. In my case I was about 8 years old; Roddy was closer to 11 years old. Seriously; why? Questions? Fire away and I’ll do my best to answer ’em π

That’s my girl!!! π We have Wiccans, Baptists, Catholics, Mormons, Atheists, probably a muslem or 2, Jewish, etc………. Um.. Who’d I leave out? Heck, we’re multi-cultural/religional (new word) . All are welcome here. Personally, I’m a mutt. π
May 27, 2010 at 3:54 pm #815677Seriously though, if ‘organized religions’ teach of Christ and set Him before us as to the type of person we want to be like, why do other Christian sects boycott our church if we are essentially teaching the same doctrine? I don’t get it π and there have been times when we really did have to run the gauntlet just to get into the chapel. It just would be nice if folks educated themselves first instead of just ‘flying off the handle’. I know lots of folks who don’t think of us as christian – so I pass onto you one of our befiefs ;
“We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.”
Please don’t think this is a rant; it’s not. It just helps make me who I am π sorry i hi=jacked your thread, Laurie

May 27, 2010 at 4:32 pm #815678Unfortunately, some members/sects are certain that ‘they’ are correct and anyone who doesn’t believe what they do is not only wrong but condemned by God. Additionally, there are some who have interpreted their duty not as demonstrating Christianity by loving and helping their neighbors, but as converting people by hammering them over the head with it if necessary. Some of them are genuinely concerned that if they do not do this, everyone else if going straight to hell, which makes it a bit difficult to argue with them. But it does tend to give the ‘victims’ a rather jaundiced view of Christians. I am frequently glad that I no longer encounter the people who practically assault you in the parking lots with ‘Are you CERTAIN you’re saved!!!?? If you died RIGHT NOW, do you KNOW you’d go to Heaven, or will God condemn you to ETERNAL damNATION!!!????’ If that sort of approach offends me, I can’t imagine it offers a very alluring introduction to people who aren’t Christians.
Personally, I much prefer the LDS and JW versions, where they go quietly door to door. Although I do not necessarily agree with all their points (you left out Episcopalian on your list, Laurie!) I have had some interesting conversations with them. Besides,it costs nothing to be polite, and I have great respect for their dedication, even if I feel no particular urge to be converted. I’ve always found the best way to strengthen my own faith is to give due consideration to other people’s beliefs; even if I don’t ultimately agree with them, it helps me clarify what I believe.
