As for speaking your mind on a call if you do it I can guarantee you will have a complaint filed against you. I’ve only had one complaint so far and it was for something stupid and turned out to be unfounded. This guy called us to take him to the hospital because his home care nurse told him a month ago he needed to go. The home nurse called him that night to see how it went at the hospital and he told them he never went so they flipped and told him to go. Sooo they called us, we showed up and said we could take them to the hospital but it wouldn’t be the one they wanted to go to because they were on alert. He didn’t want to go and we told the family we would help get him in their car since they hospital couldn’t turn them away but wouldn’t let us bring him there. They said no and filed a complaint the next day saying we refused to take him to the hospital.
Some people are self absorbed @sses π
I like that if as a cop you get an unfounded complaint, you are allowed to sue the complainer 5K
Since it doesn’t matter if it’s unfounded, it still stays in his file and can affect his chance of promotion.April 24, 2008 at 6:33 pm #692918Rusti wrote:Erm, aren’t they arresting people for calling 911 like that?
If they aren’t, they should be. π‘
April 24, 2008 at 6:38 pm #692919Nope they can call all they want and nothing gets done to them. There is one guy that calls every day because he has a cold or wants some pain meds or something stupid. We have a few people that we are on a first name basis because they call so much. When I can remember your first and last name and your entire medical history including all the meds you take thats a bad thing. Mind you there are a few people with real medical problems that end up calling alot but the majority of them just abuse the system.
April 24, 2008 at 6:54 pm #692920That is ridiculous. I had to pay for my ambulance when I broke my foot and had no other transport. Why should these idiots get a free ride? π
April 25, 2008 at 5:49 am #692921That is so retarded. I got mad just reading about it. I feel sorry for your, purpledoggy. That would be no job for me. I’d lose my temper. πΏ

What would you do if you were a substitute school teacher like me? Not only the kids can be hard, but also the school principals. They all have different ideas of what’s good and what’s bad and you have to guess in advance what he-she believes; it would not be so bad if they were not all convinced they are right on everything. If your ways, that please one, don’t please the other, you’re judged as inadapted if you don’t guess it. πΏ They all say you must be strong and stick to your beliefs… but they don’t want to hear them…
April 28, 2008 at 9:34 am #692923Oh Bowhead, I know what you mean. I need to keep my temper a lot of times at my job too, managing real estate. You’ve got some dumb characters out there…
Purpledoggy, question – can’t you slap that sucker with the bill for your time and effort? Over here it’s the norm that people who call out emergency services for nothing have to pay for it.
April 28, 2008 at 9:38 am #692924Nope we can’t charge them no matter how many times they call us π
April 28, 2008 at 10:46 am #692925Well, that’s a good income being wasted right there. π
April 28, 2008 at 11:27 am #692926just thinking about it gets me annoyed to the point of anger…I could not do your job. π
April 28, 2008 at 5:28 pm #692927Good grief. That stupid SOB needs a good thump upside the head, and his dingy girlfriend needs another. What are they, five years old? And the county taxpayers get to foot the bill for these morons? Um . . . how about someone starts a motion to bill the buggers who call an ambulance out and then refuse to go to the hospital. An ambulance is there for one reason: to convey the sick or injured to a place where they can receive care. It is not there for the irresponsible, attention-seeking, or just plain stupid. You call an ambulance, you jolly well let it take you to the hospital, or you have to pay a fee. Makes sense to me, but I am in a snarly mood just thinking about this. I’ve been on call at night and fielded my share of Bloody Idiot calls. It was not a happy time in my life. Grr. π‘
April 29, 2008 at 7:44 am #692928And you probably can’t even speak your mind to the idiots or they’ll accuse you of causing psychological damage or something like that. π
July 8, 2008 at 6:16 pm #692929You can say that again! A few months ago, a woman driving out of her carpot was talking in her mobile phone at the same time. Another car was coming in the next street and I wanted to warn her she could bang into that car. As she didn’t see me (too busy talking in her phone, I started to mime the situation. She finally noticed me. But she looked at me as if I was the indesirable one and started yelling in her car. Crap. The accident didn’t happen, but I wish it had, seing her attitude. π
Happily, phone driving is prohibitted now in Canada. Good thing, actually… π
