Usually whenever someone calls 911 its a life or death situation but last night at 2am was a little different. I was at work and of course we didn’t start running calls till after 10pm (when I’m trying to go to sleep). We get a call for a sick subject so we get there to find this guy laying in his bed. He said he was hungry and hasn’t eaten all day and wants something to eat. So I’m like 😕 “You called because you want something to eat?” He has food in his house but he doesn’t want it he wants something else like a burger or pizza. I’m trying very hard not to give him the WTF I’m not a delivery man, people might actually need me and I’m tied up with you because you want some french fries. So I do my usual check his vital signs and everything is ok. I told him if he wanted we could take him to the hospital but they are not going to feed him there either. I told him they would check him out and make sure he didn’t have anything life threatening going but he didn’t want that he just wanted something to eat. His girlfriend said she had tried to get him to eat some cereal but he didn’t want it. Finally the guy says he will eat some cereal and call us back if he is still not feeling better (aka still hungry). So yeah I know we get used as a big red taxi all the time but that was a first that I was mistaken for a pizza delivery man 🙄

Send that one to Reader’s Digest.
April 24, 2008 at 2:03 pm #692904I look at it as job security but its annoying when its 2am and your trying to get some sleep in between the legitimate calls. Last night was the night of goof balls calling. We had to respond to the police station for a guy that was in a car accident three days ago. When we got there he didn’t want to go to the hospital so we needed him to sign a refusal saying he didn’t want to go. He refused to sign it until he could talk to his lawyer and find out if his lawyer thought he should go to the hospital.

April 24, 2008 at 4:05 pm #692908I call because im hungry!! Just kidding… Dang girl… what a jerk. You are not alone, though. Hope the following can make you laugh:) http://youtube.com/watch?v=oe94rvLJ_rQ
April 24, 2008 at 4:28 pm #692909Hehe-yep you are one expensive “delivery person” considering the bill he’ll get for the ambulance coming out there. Didn’t his parents teach him that it’s just for emergencies…not pizza?
That is just another great story that you can add to the ones that I am sure you already have! 😀 😆April 24, 2008 at 5:18 pm #692910What a jerk if you had had a real 911 emergency at that time you would have been unable to respond because he couldn’t get up and get himself something to eat not because he was sick.
April 24, 2008 at 5:19 pm #692911The thing is we don’t charge for our services. The county tax payers cover our costs so everyone uses us as a “big red taxi”.
April 24, 2008 at 5:23 pm #692912Geez…what major conceit to call about something stupid like that…ugh….having that job would be hard for me…I tend to speak my mind…and that’s not always a good thing. 🙄 😆
April 24, 2008 at 5:28 pm #692913Geez… wow… 911 is for people that are wanting food… 😕 What a weirdo! There was a full moon on April 20th… maybe y’all are getting the backside of that with goofy calls.
April 24, 2008 at 6:03 pm #692914For some reason people in my work area run one week behind the full moon. I don’t know why but it always seems that way. As for speaking your mind on a call if you do it I can guarantee you will have a complaint filed against you. I’ve only had one complaint so far and it was for something stupid and turned out to be unfounded. This guy called us to take him to the hospital because his home care nurse told him a month ago he needed to go. The home nurse called him that night to see how it went at the hospital and he told them he never went so they flipped and told him to go. Sooo they called us, we showed up and said we could take them to the hospital but it wouldn’t be the one they wanted to go to because they were on alert. He didn’t want to go and we told the family we would help get him in their car since they hospital couldn’t turn them away but wouldn’t let us bring him there. They said no and filed a complaint the next day saying we refused to take him to the hospital.
April 24, 2008 at 6:09 pm #692915Erm, aren’t they arresting people for calling 911 like that?
