I was a dog groomer. So pictures like this don’t faze me. I’ve used chalk, natural vegtable dyes, etc. But, I find it amusing to know other peoples reactions. Some are shocked, some love it, some hate it. So tell me what you think…..
For example heres a news article about the panda dog. http://gothamist.com/2005/11/28/dog_dye_afterno.php 😆

August 18, 2007 at 8:20 pm #609436Personally I think dying dogs is silly and time consuming. That said, those dog’s owners obviously love them a lot and those dogs are way better off then dogs without homes or whose owners neglect them. I figure if the dog really hates it he/she will let the groomer know (they tend to make their point with teeth) and the groomer won’t do it. I wouldn’t do it to my dog but I wouldn’t condemn someone to doing it to their dog if 1) the dog doesn’t mind and 2) the dye doesn’t hurt the dog.

My feeling is pretty much the same as with people who dye their hair, get tattoos, or have parts of their body pierced or mutilated – I enjoy standing out here looking in; it doesn’t bother me a bit and in fact I often find it attractive. But I’d never be on the inside looking out.
I think dog dying is perfectly harmless compared to lots of other iniquities perpetrated in the name of “beauty” or “fashion”. Docking tails. Breeding for looks with no thought to the incidental consequences of inbreeding. Making the dog wear human costumes. (Man, I hate circuses…)
Incidentally: according to Frank Zappa, God’s first three big mistakes were man, woman, and the poodle.
August 18, 2007 at 9:58 pm #609438I think it’s pretty silly and doesn’t say much for the maturity etc. of the owner, but as long as nontoxic dyes are used, then it’s fine. 🙄 It’s not like ear cropping, where the dogs are caused pain.

I don’t think it has anything to do with maturity. It’s art, purely and simply. The fact that the “canvas” is a living animal just adds a provocative dimension. It’s not the kind of art that I’d go for, but I don’t see it as being in any way silly.
August 18, 2007 at 10:40 pm #609440Ear cropping is less invasive than spaying and neutering, it is the morons who what to use scissors or razors and do a home crop that make me mad. My next dog will likely have it done as both breeds I am interested in have it done for the show ring.
As for dyeing I think it is funny, but harmless as long as it is non-toxic and the the dogs are not put under distress while having it done. There is someone here that has a poodle with a purple mohawk, LOL.
August 18, 2007 at 10:56 pm #609441I think if the dye is safe for the dog, the dog doesn’t care (I’ve seen dogs that practically jump into their outfits and some that would rather chew your face off), and the owner wants to pay for it, sure! Some dye jobs are really disturbing (ugly), but I love that panda dog!

Although I would put it: man, baseball and the poodle. 😉Basketball should be the national sport!
August 19, 2007 at 7:17 am #609443Blah to basketball. Howabout football?
Anyway, the dog looks fine, so have at it. I think its funny.
August 19, 2007 at 9:05 am #609444only time i ever used dye was for showing, to cover up gray in a dog/horses fur..thats it
August 19, 2007 at 10:59 am #609445Speaking of poodles…..Now I’ve seen everything. I can’t believe someone would do this!

Also, what’s so wrong with poodles? They are smart, sporty, and pretty! You don’t have to have a poofy clip for a poodle. You don’t have to have pom-poms on the tail etc. Most of my clients didn’t go for traditional clips. I don’t understand why people can’t look beyond the hair! Yes groomers have fun with them, the coat is great for sculpting.
As long as your coloured poodle comes from black or white parents you should have a really good dog. You won’t have one of the goofy poodles.

I think this sums up my feelings on the subject perfectly! Thanks for saying it so well 😀
August 19, 2007 at 2:08 pm #609447I wouldn’t dye my dog because I already like her markings and I don’t care for changing nature. But it doesn’t bug me if other people do it so long as it doesn’t hurt the dog. It’d be funny to see rainbow poodle running around. It’s not like the dog cares.
