April 24, 2008 at 9:50 pm #692961I’m so sorry about your pony Phoenix 😥
April 24, 2008 at 9:51 pm #692962Thanks again. You all have been so supportive.
I’m still crying like an idiot when I talk about it. I just keep thinking of her breaking her neck like she did. I’m so mad at myself for letting this happen. I know there’s nothing I can do about it now other than learn my lesson. What a hard lesson.April 24, 2008 at 10:41 pm #692963I am so sorry to hear this. My sister in law lost a colt just last summer from the same thing. She kicked herself a lot over it too.
These things happen though, so sorry though. I offer you lots of cyberhugs. I wish there was more we could do.

April 24, 2008 at 10:46 pm #692964Oh, I’m so sorry about your pony. That’s heartwrenching. 😥 What a terrible accident. Try not to play the what if game. You’ll always come out the loser. I’ve put horses away with halters on alot, and I’ve seen others do it. It was an accident, a horribly painful accident, but still just an accident. I wish I could do more…… But, sending hugs and prayers your way.

I had to call into work today, but had to hand the phone to Mike cause I’m such a wus.
I’m here eating chocolate brownies for breakfast and trying to mix some stupid yellow paint to do a kirin that looks like her.
Why is paly and buckskin yellow so hard???
The Kirins are great cause their little faces totally have that Welsh pony look!I was getting ready to find one of the sisters a new home. I guess that made my decision easy, huh? 🙄
Thanks again all.
That is wonderful you are doing that! Brownies and painting a PYO to look like her is good therapy. I hope you feel better soon!
April 25, 2008 at 12:13 am #692966LOL, thanks. Though I’m kinda nauseous now that I ate all those brownies!
I have the kids now, so strong face is on again.
It was nice to sit home so I could cry in peace. Now if I can make it through work tomorrow without bawling. My co-worker is going to make certain no one asks me about it, so hopefully I can just have a quiet day at work.
It’s been a really long day. 🙁April 25, 2008 at 12:53 am #692967I bet. 🙁 If you have internet access at work, just remember tomorrow we’re here if you need us.
April 25, 2008 at 2:07 am #692968OMG! I’m so sorry 😥 Don’t beat yourself over this. It is not your fault. It’s no one’s fault really. Many owners leave the halters on. This is just a freak accident. There will always be “what ifs” where a loss is involved and it will hurt, but things will get better. It just takes time to smooth things over. We’re here if you need us *hugs*.
April 25, 2008 at 3:03 am #692969Phoenix,
I know how you feel. About 4 years ago, we had a foal born to a maiden mare. This mare is a total nudge, and will go out of her way to get into trouble sometimes. The colt was born about 2 weeks early, while it was still pretty cold, wet and nasty weather. So I made the decision to put a baby blanket on him. It had velcro strips that fastened at the neck, and one that went under the body. I put it on the baby, made sure the mare wasn’t going to mess with it, and went back to the house to warm up. I went back out to the barn about 2 hours later, and found the blanket off the foal, turned inside out, and the foal down on the other side of the stall, unable to get up. Bottom line was that his momma hung him trying to get that damned blanket off. Crushed his trachea, and fractured a vertebra in his neck. He died in my arms at 4 days old. To this day, I will not use a blanket on my foals. So, yeah….I guess I know about the what ifs.
But nothing happens for no reason, even if that reason isn’t immediately clear to us. Try not to blame yourself too much; it’s easy to miss something when we get distracted. I know it’s hard, but it was an accident. {{{{hugs from NJ}}}}April 25, 2008 at 4:02 am #692970Oh my, I’m so sorry 🙁 I only wish I could do or say something to help alleviate your sorrow. *hugs* The Kirin you’re painting sounds like it’s going to be a lovely memorial piece.
April 25, 2008 at 4:19 am #692971Hubby took me out there. I felt really weird. Like all the ponies were staring at me strangely.
Gracie’s sister kept looking for Grace.
Just sad.
Thanks again everyone. It means a lot 🙂April 25, 2008 at 5:26 am #692972I’m so, so sorry, Phoenix. But like the others said, things happen; don’t blame yourself. You still have the other horses. 🙁
April 26, 2008 at 2:19 am #692973I am soo sorry, thinking of you, hugs and chocolate!
