my mom and sis just found a snow goose with it’s wing completely broken. they are taking it to the wild animal er in oekley.
If it makes it, we will keep the little white snow goose.

January 11, 2008 at 10:21 pm #655137I’m sorry he had to be euthanized but your family saved him from dying a painful, lingering death. It was great that you tried. But it is really sad *sends hugs*

January 12, 2008 at 4:26 am #655141sorry
we have Canadian gees here at work. Come get one if you dare!! They are protective and MEAN!!!January 12, 2008 at 4:53 am #655142Rats–I’m sorry it was bad enough to warrant euthanasia. 🙁 Snow geese are pretty high-strung, though, and they don’t seem to tolerate the stress of injury very well. A broken wing is a pretty bad injury in general, but worse for a snow goose: since it’s a hard-core migrator, it really needs to have both wings in excellent condition or it won’t survive the trip. And that drive to migrate is really strong–even if they have a perfect place to live, they still don’t seem happy if they can’t migrate when the season turns. Some birds will pace constantly; others just refuse to eat. It’s sad.
It’s really a shame, but if the wing wasn’t fixable, then euthanasia was honestly the kindest thing to do. I’m glad that your family found it and brought it in: you prevented it from having a slow lingering death, or being snatched by a predator. I know that’s not much, but you did do a good thing for that goose.
January 12, 2008 at 4:58 am #655143that is what they were saying. they siad it was a rosner goos instead(same drive to migrate instinct though)
evidently it was already an old snap, the bone was pretty dry and it was at the shoulder..definately not a fixer. they put it under right away because it was pretty painful for the little goose.
