I recently acquired a red fire lap dragon, but the dragon has one small chip on the back leg.

I’m not really comfortable with sending the dragon out for repairs (I don’t have a proper box for her), so I’m looking for suggestions as to how I might repair the chip myself.

Is this something I should just try to paint over?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

For something in that spot, I would paint over it. Now the tricky part will be to match the color!

Is acrylic paint safe to use? Should I attempt to seal it with anything after?

Acrylic is fine. And I would seal it after with either a satin or glossy finish. I use waterbase clear coats.

I would start with a dark base (like black or brown), then add layers of reds/oranges until the color is close enough that I can’t really see that there was a chip when displayed. Not sure if you’d need metallics, though…

You could try to fill it with epoxy sculpt or polly filla or something and carve the scales which is what the good ones on here do when repairing Windstones but if not paint could fill it in. It is just hard to match the red though unless you can find some kind of metallic red acrylic as said above.

That color will be really tough to match. Start with a base coat of black, then apply a bright metallic gold over it, then apply thin transparent layers of quinacridone crimson. The red won’t be exactly the same, but it is as close as we’ve come to it.
If you would like, I can send you some paint that might work. No guarentees though!

Awe, what a shame. It’s a really easy fix with a touch of apoxy sculpt. If you want to try it I can send you two little plastic baggies of it if you want. I have plenty! ^_^

This is my old tutorial on how to use it. It’s amazing stuff!

Also, I got a pretty good match on red fire by blending 3 different colors of metallic folk art paint. If you want the recipe shoot me a PM and I’ll hook you up!
