Here are the details on Slick’s Auction.
50% of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to the National Wildlife Federation’s “Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund”.
From their website (–>direct link<–) :
The money donated to this fund will go toward supporting NWF’s immediate response and longer term on-the-ground work to safeguard wildlife affected by this tragedy.
Where Does Your Money Go?
The money donated to the National Wildlife Federation through response to the oil spill will support the following efforts:
* Development and deployment of the National Wildlife Federation’s Gulf Coast Surveillance Teams, a volunteer network that is being organized to monitor the coast for wildlife impacted by the oil spill. Beyond the initial surveillance needed, this effort will then shift to long term volunteer restoration programs.
* Restoration of vulnerable nesting and breeding grounds, as well as other delicate ecosystems found throughout the Gulf Coast for water birds, sea turtles and other animals.
* Public education about the oil spill and its impacts on wildlife, including our online efforts at http://www.nwf.org/oilspill and informing the press and others about the impacts the oil spill is having on coastal communities and wildlife.
* Policy work at the national and state level to support restoration of habitat in the Gulf Coast and better protection of our waters and coastlines.August 25, 2010 at 2:40 am #501473August 25, 2010 at 2:46 am #825307What a wonderful thing to do to help the gulf coast! Slick is lovely, despite being borne out of tragedy…
Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!

August 25, 2010 at 3:21 am #825310His original name was “BP”.
August 25, 2010 at 3:24 am #825311I have to wonder, maybe something like this could be offered in the store? It wouldn’t have to be a sculpt as big as a Flap Cat (although that would be fine with me) – maybe a smaller sculpt like a vampire bat or cat’s cradle painted in the same manner. You could charge a bit more so Windstone could still make a profit, but the difference or whatever could go to help fund the Gulf restoration. Just a thought 😳 .

I like “Slick” better 😉 .
August 25, 2010 at 3:33 am #825313Yea, let’s not tarnish that lovely cat by naming it after BP. I like Slick 🙂

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.August 25, 2010 at 1:25 pm #825315Ooo I really like Slick & what a great thing to donate some of the proceeds! Will hopefully throw my hat in that ring!
August 25, 2010 at 2:27 pm #825316I’d love to see more cats like Slick in the store sometime, doesn’t have to include the magic paint though as I figure that’s rather time consuming. But a full black cat with red jewels and eyes would be perfect. Perhaps some of the proceeds could go to charity if the store price is increased a little?
August 25, 2010 at 2:31 pm #825317AnonymousWonderful idea! I did want to say that I have done auction listings for various charities too – and when the listing is set up, there is a place to actually checkmark and select the charity so that the charitable ribbon shows up on your listing which catches the eye and some folks actually search out charity auctions. Plus, eBay doesn’t charge you a final value fee for the percent that goes towards the charity and all the info is embedded into the auction to contact or donate direct. Just an fyi

There was an option to choose the NWF but the money would have gone to them for general use, not specifically for anything related to the oil spill.
August 25, 2010 at 5:59 pm #825319What a really nice thing to do, Windstone. 🙂 I am not fond of this color, but I put my bid in for charity.
