Well Gee Wiz Willikers!
I had the thread that this came from on my screen last night. But when I went to find it this morning, it became a lost cause.
Ms. Melody, you were talking about the new stark white Unicorns with the silver horns.
UNCLE – I give up trying to find where that thread went to, so here is my solution. I have created a new thread and I hope you get a lot of feedback as a result of it. You seem a little unsure where you want to go with a new production line of Unicorns with that gorgeous shiny silver horn.
I am a HUGE fan of silver. I prefer (because of my skin tone) to wear .925 silver jewelry. Yes, I definitely adore your gold horned items, but I am absolutely at the edge of my seat hoping for a release of the Silver horned Unicorns!
WARNING – YOU ARE ENTERING THE WAY BACK, TIME MACHINE
1984-5 was when I first discovered your horse statues. My horse riding buddy was gifted the white male sitting Unicorn by a boyfriend of hers. I was in absolute awe, it was so lifelike and gorgeous. Neither she nor I knew where he got it from. I later discovered that they were in the malls, in stores like Wicks and Sticks. Through the years, I couldn’t dream of buying them yet, because my then husband insisted that we move around a LOT & I knew they were very delicate.
It wasn’t until 2006 that I was reintroduced to your horse statues by of all things, a boyfriend that gifted me the white mother Unicorn.
About a year later, as I was staring at the solitary mother Unicorn and ogling my treasured wish booklet, which was my saved WE catalogues from back in the day when I would gawk at your stuff in the malls, I had a thought hit me, ‘I wonder if I can find these babies on the internet’, since the closest mall was well over an hour away.
Oh yeah, I hit eBay running (yes, I too have my eBay seller, shipping horror stories.) I also found your forums here the same day I started searching for your precious pretties over the internet. Needless to say, I have all the White Unicorns and Pegasi and almost all of the black Unicorns, sans the black Grand Unicorn of course.
PLEASE EXIT LEFT FROM THE WAY BACK, TIME MACHINE
😛
NOW ON TO THE POINT OF THIS POST:
I am trying to come up with new unicorn colors. I think plain snow white with silver horn and chain, and blue eyes. These are plain vanilla, but they are pretty and look different enough from the off-white color of the old “white” unicorns to be a new color.
I might try them in jet black with silver chain and horn too.
I test painted a few blue roan unicorns, but they look an awful lot like the “grulla” color. Maybe too close, though they would have silver horns.
MY OPINION
After I read your above, I looked over my laptop screen and towards the ‘off’ white Unicorns that I have displayed on the top of my TV. Yeah, the TV is one of the big, “older” clunky ones. But unlike the more modern flat screens, it’s great for holding stuff, like Windstone Unicorns!
Here’s the thing, I don’t see me buying more white Unicorns. Even though you state that they will be a stark white vs the more muted off whites of the older production pieces. I do see that perhaps the newer people that are just now discovering your beauties possibly being the ones that will buy this newer, stark white Unicorn family. Why? Because as I wrote above in my introduction, the rest of us um, ‘older’, eh hem, more mature
collectors probably already have the family of white Unicorns and Pegasi. MY COLORATION SUGGESTION FOR THE NEW
STARK WHITE UNICORNS W/SILVER HORN &
POSSIBLE BLACK UNICORNS W/SILVER HORN
If perhaps you fancied up the hair on them, that might make them different enough. Err, I’m not meaning the body hair. I’m referring to the forelock, beard, mane and tail tip.
No, I’m not meaning like the Grulla’s. You stated that you think that the eBay special Blue Roans and the LE Grulla’s looked the same to you. I saw Pam’s photos of the both types in the other thread, the one where she took the poll on new Unicorn colors and I personally don’t think they look that similar, but you’re the Boss Lady.
You could so go FANTASY UNICORN.
Think about this ….
I am referring ONLY to the forelock, beard, mane and tail tip, since I know that you need to keep it relatively simple for a production piece. You are the one with the eye and the brush in your hand and must approve of the look as you play with the colors and what will work with those bright and shiny pewter horns.
You could either STRIPE the hair with color, SHADE from dark to light OR you could MATCH the HAIR with all ONE type of COLOR that works with that shiny silver horn. You could EITHER MATCH the EYES & GEMS WITH the HAIR COLOR that you think works with the silver horns OR MATCH EYE & GEM SEPERATE from HAIR COLOR.
A FEW EXAMPLES:
SHADING: Darkish green (dark color always at the base, as an in between the coat hair) to light green, dark blue to light blue or even rich purple to lighter purple and a gemstone that matches the darkest color used. The eye colors could match the hair/gem combo, but I have seen where it doesn’t always work, so the eye color would be a end of paint job decision.
STRIPING: Light purple hair and mid to dark purple stripes throughout with a purple gemstone that matched either the darkest or middle color used for the striping.
MATCH: The forelock, mane, beard and tail tip are all one color, that works with the shiny silver horns, with some antiquing, slight shading to make the fact that it is hair stand out more. The gem can be a variation of that particular color used.
EXAMPLE: You know how a lot of people love your use of pink here? Why not a nice pink color for the hair and a dark pink crystal with a regular eye? Pink, Grey & Silver are AWESOMESAUCE together! Relatively dark grey hooves with a lighter grey muzzle ….
I can see all of the above as a really awesome FANTASY UNICORN in the Stark White that you are playing with and for me to suggest pink for the hairs, I am not even a fan of pink!
But I can see it in my mind and it looks spectacular. AS FOR A BLACK UNICORN
I would definitely like to see a black Unicorn family with the silver horns. I see a bright, shiny silver horn, a medium, somewhat shiny silver hooves and a muted color for the chain. The chain does not have to be silver/grey. Why can it not be a medium blue with a dark blue crystal? Or a medium red with a dark red crystal? Or a medium purple with a dark purple crystal? See where I am getting at here? The eyes could match either the chain color OR the gemstone color OR you could keep them natural.
Again, the finished eye color would depend on what it looks like when they are added to the painted statue.
Yes, I have seen where changing the eye color completely changes the look of the statue. I remember someone, either you all or was it Jennifer that did that with her eBay special Griffins. I am recalling that it was Jennifer that photo shopped in different eye colors for those amazing Griffins she painted and yes, the Griffins looked so different with each eye color type.
Here’s the thing, the base for the Grand Unicorns could be all kinds of variations of stone colors, not just the brown you used for the white Grand Unicorns. By doing that, you could tie in the chain color, the crystal color and the eye colors with the colors used in the base of the Grand Unicorn. Which if collected & displayed together (the entire Unicorn family), would really make the whole set come together.
EXAMPLE
I see a nice orangey, red, with a hint of yellow and black antiquing in the lines, like rich red granite tones on the base for the Grand Unicorn and possibly a medium orange eye color that matched one of the colors from the base, a possibly light orange neck chain with a very dark orange crystal.
CREEPY LIMITED EDITION HALLOWEEN BLACK UNICORNS
I know you have a HUGE following of the Hades, eBay special fans here. But I do not think that the no iris Red eyes that were used for the eBay specials on the Hades pieces will work for a Limited Production piece in the black Unicorns since your regular production, original black Unicorns already have the red crystals in the neck chain.
However, I DO see the possibility of Hematite eyes if you wanted to do another type of Creepy, Limited Edition, Halloween style, black Unicorn family. The collar gem could even be a white crystal, which would offset the black, silvery, spooky combination of the colors.
I have no idea if you folks can even get your hands on round Hematite stones that would fit into the various eye sockets for the Unicorn family. But, since Hematite is naturally silvery black, it would appear dead’ish for an eye and would definitely give off the ‘Creepy Factor’ when viewed.

October 12, 2014 at 9:09 am #920578I would also love to see white unicorns with colourful manes and tails like a white unicorn with a pink mane and tail or maybe blue or purple or maybe a few of each colour. Or I would love to see a white unicorn with a rainbow coloured mane and tail if that wasn’t too hard to do. I would love them with light blue or teal eyes as I love the look of light coloured eyes versus dark or brown eyes.
For either black or grey unicorns, what about lighter manes like a blue silver dapple with a white mane? That way it wouldn’t look too close to the grullas since it was said the blue roans do look close to the grullas. Or palominos with a light mane and tail would be nice even though I have a couple grab bag ones but would still buy production ones.
Also for more fantasy colours, a line of light pink, purple or blue pearl or blue ice or blue morpho unicorns would be awesome and I am sure would be popular!
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
October 12, 2014 at 1:39 pm #920579I hope that Windstone stays away from the white with pastel or rainbow look. Leave that to My Little Ponies, sweatshirt graphics, and dollar store figurines.
October 12, 2014 at 7:55 pm #920591I like blue roans and jet blacks 😀 also what about a nice coppery chestnut, like Firebringer? Silver and reddish hues can go very prettily together. (Paint blue roans are my favourite haha. Especially if they have blue eyes!)
Check out my finished artwork at http://falcolf.deviantart.com/ and my sketch/studio blog at http://rosannapbrost.tumblr.com/
Excellent!
October 12, 2014 at 8:17 pm #920593I really like the Blue roans as well! In my opinion as a horse color aficionado, grulla and Blue roan don’t really look that much alike, at least the ones I’ve seen don’t look alike.
I also think it’d be super cute if we had unis in muted colors (kinda fantasy tones I suppose) sorta like some of the red foxes I’ve seen in the recent GB batch, they’re very soft and whimsical and I think would love fabulous on the unis with silver horns and it’d look fine if the colors from the mane/tail bleed onto the body since the whole look would be those soft muted colors tones so any splotches would work in this situation.
Here are some of those muted colors on the red foxes that I think could translate very well and beautiful on the Unicorns. Of course not in these exact patterns but, the colors in general! The eye colors could be a nice doe-y brown or even light lavenders or blues.

Those would make pretty unicorns either way though!
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
October 13, 2014 at 1:59 am #920603I’m fine with white and all black unicorns but I’d also love to see something awesome like the level of the Blue Morpho or Ocelot colors, not saying put that on them but something more intricate on them like um, snow leopards or something like that….
4 things I'm looking for:
1. Mother Meerkat
2. production color Sitting Young Oriental dragons to be made in more colors besides VF, Brimstone would be awesome!
3. Female Griffin – Siamese with White
4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male GriffinOctober 13, 2014 at 3:32 pm #920619I hope that Windstone stays away from the white with pastel or rainbow look. Leave that to My Little Ponies, sweatshirt graphics, and dollar store figurines.
I agree with this.. when I first heard the idea white uni w a rainbow mane/tail.. I instantly had an 80’s childhood flashback to Rainbow Brite..
And white with pastels makes me think it belongs in my neighbors 1yr olds room.Sorry to sound so harsh, but I really like unicorns that are meant for adults… these are expensive, high detail, gothic style sculpts..
I think a galaxy unicorn would be an epic sight, or go back and look at the test paints that have been done, so many stunning colors have been created!

Yes and yes!!I couldn’t agree more.
Life is beautiful.

Yeah, that’s kinda how I feel about it!
Maybe that’s why I really don’t like solid fantasy colors on the adult unicorns. Wild Fantasy patterns and designs are fine, but not like, solid pink or lavender or something. That’s for dragons and mlps.
Although it is temping to paint an invisible pink unicorn.October 13, 2014 at 5:42 pm #920628I really like the Blue roans as well! In my opinion as a horse color aficionado, grulla and Blue roan don’t really look that much alike, at least the ones I’ve seen don’t look alike.

Sure, I’d buy that! Blue point, lilac point, even flame point would look pretty cute!

I like the idea of siamese colors. Maybe with just a bit of striping, or a dorsal stripe?
October 14, 2014 at 6:30 am #920658Siamese cat colours would be cool. I don’t see anything wrong with rainbow or pastel colours on unicorns. There are lots of dragons Melody painted in those colours as she mentioned as well as grab bag unicorns and poads that are pretty with those colours and I don’t look at them and think they belong in a 1 year old’s room. I never collected anything like My little Pony so maybe that’s why I don’t see a connection. I don’t think any of us would collect these if we didn’t think they were made for adults.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
