Your tax dollars at work ladies and gentlemen….
October 9, 2009 at 6:51 am #499346October 9, 2009 at 7:27 am #786148I think your title says it all. 😕
October 9, 2009 at 2:28 pm #786149What a waste of $79 million dollars. :negative: I can think of a lot of things that money would be better suited for.
October 9, 2009 at 3:24 pm #786150All I could say this morning while watching GMA was WTF?!?! Our economy is questionable, and they are worried about putting a colony on the friggin moon?! 😮 😡
And I thought my priorities suck once in a while… 🙄
Ok, I know 79 million isn’t a whole lot in the giant scheme of things, but why not just divide it between all the tax paying Americans and send us a friggin check that can actually be used to help out the economy. (In some small insignificant way.)
I guess they wouldn’t have to worry about global warming on the Moon now would they? *rolls eyes*
What a waste of money. :shout:October 9, 2009 at 3:50 pm #786151Sigh, indeed. A human has not stepped foot on the moon in my lifetime, and while I hate to be pessimistic, a mission or colony that requires Moon water in the rest of my lifetime seems slim.
It will be neat to know whether or not there is water on the moon, but it’s essentially a factoid. They could have refurbished a telescope and/or run some educational programs for that amount.
Not that I really mind them not sharing, 79 million dollars divided by 300 million people would have gotten each and every American a voucher for a Postage Stamp. If the Post Office cut them a deal for bulk purchases, anyway. 😆
October 9, 2009 at 4:07 pm #786152I’m on the WTF band wagon here??
Who cares with there is water or not?? What difference oes it make anyway??October 9, 2009 at 4:08 pm #786153It’s not a waste. A waste would mean nothing came of it.
If they discover that the moon has water/ice, that then means that they can support life up there. See, once there is H20, they can then pull it apart to create oxygen and hydrogen.Though part of me wishes they put the funding into monitoring NEO’s (Near Earth Objects) instead… >_>

My art: featherdust.comOctober 9, 2009 at 5:25 pm #786154I’m going to get lynched, but I really have no problem with it. I’ll looking forward to the findings.

🙂 Me too. Though I’m with Nam as well. Moon colonies feel VERY far off, while the threat of a metorite strike is always with us.
October 9, 2009 at 7:06 pm #786156The scientist bug in me looks forward to the findings as well.
So if they are gonna lynch us, they should lynch all of us. But it’s not my tax money – so what can I say… 😕
October 9, 2009 at 11:10 pm #786157I’m ok with finding (or not finding) water on the moon. Our population will continue to grow and eventually be unsustainable. Whether that is 100 years or 1000 years from now…well, we’ll know if it’s even feasible to populate the moon or look elsewhere. I don’t see *reducing* the population as an option (some people have a moral aversion to the most efficient methods of reduction. I wonder why…) Anyway, it’s not merely cerebral. Most people are just disappointed that there wasn’t a big explosion or something. Not that I’m suggesting that’s why some people here are upset about it. Realistically, we probably won’t ever be able to colonize the moon on a massive scale, but we can use it as a much more efficient “jumping off” point for further exploration/colonization. Water is a source of both sustenance and fuel, so it’s an important resource.
October 10, 2009 at 5:16 am #786158Heh, I’m actualy of not much of opinion either way, I think it’s cool, just a bit untimely. I support NASA 100% and think they’ve been shot to the wayside and underfunded for way too many years. I’m more /sigh at this because it’s the nature of boys (and some girls) to want to take a large expensive object and launch it into something else greater or equaly large, “just to see what happens”. Or as Louis would say: “It just had to be done, kind of like the urge to set things on fire or me groping you all the time….It just had to be done” XD
October 10, 2009 at 7:18 am #786159I had a big long rant going on, but then I decided, I honestly don’t feel like getting flamed aobut my opinion anymore. 😕

Awww I like your rants….give me something to read at 3am when I’m doped up on vicodin and can’t sleep! 😈 <3
I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone “flaming” you out right, I mean some well posed arguments and opinions countering yours I can understand, think of it as a different way of looking at things and you can take it or leave it. If it’s happening consistantly in PMs and such that’s not really cool imho, you’re entitled to your thoughts and opinions and people should see the end of the last sentace if they don’t agree.
And I’m sorry if you’ve felt I’ve ever flamed you in the past =P, never my intention!
