I showed it to a co-worker of mine at work who is an anime fan as well. She was like, “omg…OMG… is that?? Is that THE FOX!? Holy crap!” It was awesome. 😆

WOOT! Awesome photo Yeral!! Hey, did I say your name right in the video? I hope I didn’t ruin your walk to fame by mispronouncing it! 😆

😆 Thanks!! I thought it was kind of cute 😳

And you pronounced it close enough – I was Yeral on World of Warcraft for 2 years and people in my guild ALL pronounced it differently. Heck, even my own BROTHER, who has heard me say it many many times pronounces it differently 😆 So as long as it’s close to what I think of it as, it’s fine with me 🙂 I say “YUR-uhl”, for the record.. but seriously, anything close is good 😀

A great video, Drag0n; I watched it twice. 😀 I got a kick out of your excitement over the dragon from Machineguts; it’s always nice to see someone so happy about a piece. 😆

I would also love to see a video of your repaints posted on the same site. Please, please, please. squeek* squeek* squeek*

Wow, lookit all those pyos Drag0n! I’m amazed you can remember all their names and who painted them off the top of your head. If I had that many I would never remember all the details.

I’m anal about this, but “ki-rin” is pronounced “key-din”, according to my Japanese, Japanese teacher. It is also the word for giraffe.

That is weird..because the Hiragana for Kirin is the symbols for Ki, Ri, and N which would be pronounced in japanese Key-lrin with the r being a lr sound. I wonder why she would pronounce it with a d when there is no symbol in the word for d? Did she explain why it should be pronounced that way, I’m very curious?

The D wasn’t extremely pronounced, but that’s really the only way to type it out. Some people also type it as “key-d-een” to show how it’s pronounced.
No, she didn’t say why it’s pronounced that way. But she was born and raised in Japan, and is Japanese, so I would only assume that she would know best on how to pronounce something in her native language.
Also, my best friend studied Japanese in school as well. He’s 4 years older than me (so, not the same teacher in other words. Wasn’t even in the same part of the world at the time), and he always pronounced it “key-din” as well.

I believe the Chinese version of ki-rin is pronounced with an L. Perhaps you’re mistaking the two?

edit: Also, as I recall, in the english dub of Petshop of Horrors (the subtitled was super rare to get at the time, so I could only get the dubbed), they pronounce it “key-din” as well.
                      So…

That is really interesting. I don’t doubt your info at all :).
When I checked my dictionaries, all of them have the same japanese spelling, so I just would have assumed to pronounce it as they spell it.
You know how in the writing system, the characters for T sounds are also used for D sounds, but none of the characters are found in the word for kirin, just the r-ish sound character.
I am wondering if it is a word that has added pronunciation that is not in the spelling then?? Honestly this is very interesting.

If you read the Lian Hearn series the Otori, at one point, a kirin is mentioned. I was surprised to see the name! Then the description clearly depicted a giraffe.

When I get a pet giraffe, I’ll call it kirin. And I’ll pronounce it the French way 😆

I found this… Kujacker, is this how it sounded?? I also find this fascinating. I’m used to the Rs sounding like Ls. 🙂

Also, with the Chinese word being qilin/quilin, I automatically thought it was kee-leen. But I can’t hear any R, L, or D in this one.

Although, this may very well be the kee-d-een I’m hearing.

Wow, never seen one of those before. Nifty! It’s been about 2 years since I’ve last heard the word being spoken, but that sounds right. Though my teacher didn’t drag out the “een” part of it so much. I suppose that could be a tomato/potato type of slight difference in saying it?
I didn’t get too much into the written language (like, at all), so I can’t say anything about that.
