Got my Emperor this morning. I LOVE him! I’m even more excited about it since this is something I specifically squeaked about and then Melody painted some. 😀
The lighting in the second pic is more accurate to the actual color. It’s a really deep copper bronze and it even shines like the metal.
Wolfen: We need to squeak for OWs in this new CP color! The reddish hues in the copper REALLY work wonders for the color scheme in general.
If there could be an OW, and the rest of the hatching royalty, that would be my ideal Copper Patina collection. Maybe more orientals with teal eyes too.

Thanks Wampus! He’s so pretty! I’m still undecided if I ever want one, so for now I’ll live vicariously through you. (not big on the emperors-but I do want a silver and red fire one day! And Brown of course)
0:) Ive already got a CP OW 😉 he’s one of the prototypes from ebay…but he is the “old” copper patina color. If I wasn’t already out of space, I’d probably get a “new” CP one if they come out, as long as they have lots of the “patina” on them. I like the heavier patina of the old color.
June 24, 2011 at 5:41 pm #849242I dont like a lot of green on them. It really detracts from the deep reddish copper color. I like it better when they look like a shiny new piece of bronze.
June 26, 2011 at 1:03 am #849329I really LOVE the CP coloring. These are definately on my list to collect. At the moment I just have the curlie so I am loving seeing the photos of the ones you guys got.
June 26, 2011 at 1:57 am #849330At some point I’d love to get one of the coiled mothers. In my opinion she’s the prettiest in this color so far, though the laps are also reallly gorgeous!
June 26, 2011 at 2:07 am #849331Hmm. I like the ‘middle’ version of copper patina best, so far. The one with purple interference and such, but that still had red eyes. The patina was somewhere between the super-heavy first attempts and the current very lightly patina’d version. I feel fortunate to have caught a mother dragon and an oriental in that ‘phase’. >__>; If the emperor looked like my mother dragon, I might have been more inclined to buy one…but if they’re not gonna make any more like her, I guess I’m done with my CP collection. 6_6;
The newest version is nicer with the teal eyes, I will give it that. I don’t think the red eyes would look good on it.
June 27, 2011 at 5:05 am #849401I love this new version of the Copper Patina. Much richer than the first-generation ones I had. I just wish my fledge had more purple. I love the purple interference! If anyone doesn’t like it and has too much on theirs, I would totally trade. 🙂

June 29, 2011 at 9:29 pm #849634Hmm. The paint doesn’t seem to have that ‘beaten metal’ look to it anymore. That was my favorite bit…
June 30, 2011 at 1:06 am #849666Yeah.. unfortunately this thread has convinced me NOT to get anything in the new Copper Patina. I thought it had a lot more purple on it than the pictures are showing.. if each piece had as much of the purple highlights as are shown in the store pictures, I’d definitely get some. As they are right now though, they’re too monochrome for me to love 🙁

It doesnt quite capture the depth of the color because they DO look like theyre made of metal. If you reached out to touch them, you’d expect them to feel like it. The lap dragon however is more…flat. He looks like a dragon painted copper. Not a dragon made of copper.

So does the emperor have this sort of textured effect up close? ->
And does your lap look as smooth as Chris’s fledge? Or different?
June 30, 2011 at 3:33 am #849697My fledgling definitely has more texture to the paint than the other fledgies, but not as much “pitted metal” effect as the older ones.
I rather like this new one over the old style though. It reminds me less of weathered bronze, and more of a lucky penny. 😉 I love the luster!
June 30, 2011 at 2:29 pm #849718The lack of that “beaten” or “pitted” look might be because the earlier CPs were done on less-than-perfect castings, while the newer ones were from castings that were fine, but people loved the color.

Hmm. It looks more like a (usually undesirable) airbrushing effect called ‘orange peel’ to me. Although I also think I remember Melody saying something about it being the type of paint used…either way, the prototype OW I had in CP that I traded to Wolfen also had this effect, and I know he was not a bad cast, as they are all repainted Emeralds.

We went to great lengths to achieve that rough texture on the “old” patina, which were all imperfect castings. The newer ones are somewhat smoother. Many have been made from perfect castings so we were less concerned about hiding defects!
