Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
May 22, 2018 at 4:44 am #1539314I’d love to see more of other member’s collections, like yours drag0nfeathers! As a relative newbie here (well, it’s been two years now, but that’s not much compared to some of you) there’s so many pieces out there that I haven’t seen.
I’d also love to see gardenninja’s collection (hint hint! 😉 )

I have been around for 7 and a half years (which isn’t much compared to some) and there are a TON of active members on the forum who choose not to share their collections…EVER! Not even a new GB in a show off thread. (Their choice, I know)
However, I would also love to look at more eye candy, see different collections, and how they’re displayed 🙂 I also wish more ppl would share 🙂

What??? That would require WORK on my part!
Maybe someday….
But then, I think I’ve been telling myself to do it for 10 years. Hmm.My keyboard is broken. I keep pressing "Escape", but I'm still here.

Same here. I’d like to know what was considered production, limited production, and test paints, so I know if I have a shot at maybe getting some of the colors out there, by knowing what picture I see on google searches is a test paint or not.

May 22, 2018 at 1:46 pm #1539327One place to see past ebay items is in the galleries here. They have ebay galleries and “Windstone Product Galleries”. Items in the product galleries were either RP or LP, and multiple were made. Sometimes, not very many, but more than one. Items in the ebay galleries should be assumed one-of-a-kind, because even if a test paint #2 was made, the second one will have been different. Both types of galleries are works-in-progress and very incomplete. The product gallery index page is only up to item #502 – most of what is listed is the old animal line [1xx=old animals, mostly domestic; original 2xx=more domestic animals; 3xx=mostly dinosaurs; original 4xx=old wild animals; new 2xx=meerkats; new 4xx=wizard animals and miscellaneous animals; 5xx=dragons]. There are forward and back arrows at the bottom of each figurine’s page. If you click on the last item on the product galleries index page, following the arrows goes to the prints gallery, then some of the ebay galleries, then item 503 (male dragons), then more ebay galleries. Hover your mouse over a picture to see the name of a color.
On the other hand, maybe you shouldn’t look at the galleries. You’ll just end up with a longer want list, like I did. 😛

I’d like to share my collection when I can get them all over here and displayed- don’t have places for most the larger pieces yet. For all my longevity as a collector and forum member though, my collection is quite small and boring compared to most. Plus I don’t know how to blur out my 2 illegal pieces, which are in the middle of the one case I have! I’ll have to move things about before the photo shoot hah.
May 23, 2018 at 2:51 pm #1539361I’d like to know what was considered production, limited production, and test paints, so I know if I have a shot at maybe getting some of the colors out there, by knowing what picture I see on google searches is a test paint or not.
I think this is a complete list (subject to correction) … Basically, as I understand it, production colors were sold in stores or by online dealers while LP colors were online sales from Windstone only. With the disappearance of brick-and-mortar stores that sell Windstones this difference may not matter much anymore.
Four of the production colors are retired:
Amethyst
Old Green (this may not officially be retired, but Melody says they are out of one of the paint colors and mixing more would be a pain)
Red Fire
Ruby (note – the Ruby color evolved over time so there are both dark Rubies that are almost cranberry color and brighter red ones)
Colors not yet retired, though not all sculpts are still being made. The baby dragon and/or the version 2 hatching dragon come in these colors:
Black Gold
Black Violet Peacock
Blue Morpho
Brown
Copper Patina
Elven
Emerald (note – there are variations of Emerald – bright green pieces and dark Emerald ones referred to as “Jade”)
Emerald Peacock
Gold
Pastel Rainbow
Peacock (note – the Peacock color evolved over time so there are both dark Peacock dragons and brighter blue ones)
Prismatic Spring
Rainbow
Shell Pink
Silver
Tanzanite
Violet Flame
White
Test paints almost always are One of a Kind and usually stay that way. Occasionally a test paint color will become production or LP – Elven, Blue Morpho, Pastel Rainbow, and Violet Flame are examples, though the production Violet Flame pieces are different from the test paints.
May 23, 2018 at 3:48 pm #1539364There are a lot of pieces under postponed production too in Lavender, Aquamarine, Gold, Copper Patina, Sand and Rainbow meaning they haven’t been painted in quite a while and might not be painted in those colours again. Also aren’t some of the old rainbows retired like the rainbow fledgling, young, mother, male and version 1 hatching dragon? I think those were only sold in stores and then they stopped painting them as I’ve never seen them listed on this website.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
May 23, 2018 at 4:08 pm #1539367Yes, thank you, I forgot Lavender Pearl. I almost overlooked Old Green which would have been a real oops!
May 23, 2018 at 7:04 pm #1539380I think by this definition, only old green, ruby and red fire are fully retired, due to paint issues. (no longer make one used in old green, stability/quality issues with ruby/red fire paints) Many of the other schemes listed are officially retired; you can’t get any brand new brown, peacock or emerald males for instance unless you find a shop with (very) old unsold stock. You could perhaps call these colors semi retired because Windstone has been very good about painting limited runs of new sculpts in retired color schemes where possible. That’s why, although brown was the first color retired, when there were only 4 dragon sculpts, you can find it on all the Western dragons except the hearth. (she’s the one exception so far to the release of retired colors on new sculpts)
