This is my first time posting here so.. please be nice… anyways, Im working on a shoulder dragon and I thought some of you might like to see it.

Im still putting in the details on the plaster cast.. and I have a few breaks that need to be fixed… but in its final form it will be made of latex and is fit to sit comfortably on any shoulder and will not fall without being attached. Its also going to have some fabric dragon fly wings which I will work on this week. The tail, which you might notice it currently lacks, will be made seperate and attached in its final latex form. Im still figuring out how to make the scales as I go. They are some what based off of a windstone edition dragon I have but mostly off the scales of my guppy and koi fish I own…honestly… Im surprised at how it is coming considering this is the first time ever I have attempted to carve something… also the first time ever I used a Dremel tool that my dad got me… heck, it will just plain be the first latex shoulder dragon I have ever made!…. anyways, tell me what you all think… Im making it as a thank you gift for a man who gave me some near show quality koi for free so I want it to be good when I give it to him.

For starters, welcome to the forum, Strider! Great that you decided to post instead of disappearing into oblivion. And don’t worry – we’re nice. One big family, including the occasional tiffs. 🙂
Your shoulder dragon looks great! The scales look like a lot of work. Do you have any plans as to coloring? How long till we get to see the finished product?

Im still looking at different coloring options. Ive seen some dyes for latex that might work but they cost a lot around here. Im also looking into some special paints that work on latex. I’ll be working on the dragon more this week and since Im getting a break from school I just might have almost all the scales done before christmas. After that, it should only take a day or two to do a resin mold and then another couple of days to do the final latex cast. I’ll post more pics as the piece pregresses.

Cool! It’ll look great when it’s done.

Welcome to the forum! I like the idea of a shoulder dragon. Your sculpt is coming along nicely. I wish I could give you some tips, but I have never done it before. Looks like alot of hard work.

Welcome! Your dragon looks really neat! Be sure to let us know how it goes.

While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!

Good scales. What color scheme are you planning on? Oh and welcome to the forum.

I would help but I am just to tired to get out of bed today~

I agree with Ski. I think a shoulder dragon is a neat idea. Post pics. Welcome to the forum.

When I first saw the post for this I thought you meant something like these that Albert Alfaro Jr. of Imaginarium Galleries made:

The baby Drabit on my husband’s shoulder is named Storm Chaser and the Winged Unicorn Drabit on my shoulder is named Sky Dancer.

A closer look at Sky Dancer. You can see my elf ears I wear to the ren faire!

They are animated puppets known as Drabits. My husband and I also have other Drabits that we haven’t taken pictures of that are larger than the two shown.

That’s so cute! But it probably tickles the neck something awful…

Not too bad, though they do slide just a little if you can’t run the control wires down your sleeves.

Crazy thing is each Drabit can cost around the price of a Windstone. And we have a family of 4 adult Drabits, a baby Drabit and a newborn Drabit. We only paid for 3 of the adults. The other three were won off raffle tickets at the end of the day at the Ren Faire.

Sounds like you got really lucky! They’re priced like which Windstone? The male or the retired Riser?

We did get lucky. The adult we won was one we had looked at, but couldn’t afford. Then when they held him up we went “Wouldn’t it be cool if we won him” and then we did. I can’t remember prices on them exactly but the three large ones we got cost around $200+/- each.
