Hi everybody . Having observed from the edge of the Forum over the past few months (I’m shy ) I appreciate the vast knowledge that you all have about every aspect of Windstones so I’m hoping to tap into that knowledge . I’m wondering if anyone knows of a way round the lack of shipping to the UK – apart from upping sticks & moving across the water ( which I’m sorely tempted at times when I hear & see all the lovely beauties that you can buy ). It tends to be with the retired pieces & it’s frustrating not being able to go after them . Do other “foreigners” have the same problem & if so have they found any solution ? I’d be most grateful for any suggestions .
August 6, 2007 at 8:11 pm #606344I think the dealers on here ship to the UK, but you said mostly the retired peices? Sometimes you can ask an Ebay seller if they ship. My Ebay will not even give me the option of worldwide shipping until after I list my item. I have to go in and revise it. Some sellers may not do this and all you have to do is ask (If they dont specify in the auction.) Most will be happy to as long as you dont complain about the expensive shipping. 🙂
August 6, 2007 at 8:25 pm #606345Thanks for that Skigod . Yes tell me about the price of shipping 👿 but everyone I’ve dealt with has been great trying to keep the costs down . I tracked down some pieces outside of E-bay & they aren’t as keen to ship outside the UK . When I total up what I’ve paid out on shipping I’m sure I could’ve had return tickets to the US instead . My cases would be well over the baggage allowance though 😯 !!!!!!!!
August 6, 2007 at 8:45 pm #606346That is true! 😆 I cannot imagine having to deal with customs, either. What a bummer to get something and then have to pay for it again!~ That would just piss me off. And from what GB says, there is no real method to how they charge people ❓ I really feel for you.
August 6, 2007 at 8:51 pm #606347Are there different restrictions for a dealer to ship an item than for someone shipping something to a friend (from the the US to the UK)?
As in, does it cost a dealer more because of customs charges, etc?

As in, does it cost a dealer more because of customs charges, etc?Not as far as I know. Shipping just depends on distance, not who ships it. The buyer pays all the shipping anyway. I do wonder if it costs more in customs for the buyer if it comes from a store as opposed to a friend….
August 6, 2007 at 8:57 pm #606349I know if you mark it as a gift that will help as well.
August 6, 2007 at 9:17 pm #606350I think postage is based on a combination of size & weight & how quickly you want it shipped . The buyer is responsible for the custom charges which I think is about 18% 😯 of the total value of the item(s) & the UK postal sevice also adds a handling charge so it’s a fair whack on to the total 😈 .
August 7, 2007 at 4:20 pm #606351As a dealer, I can tell you that it is illegal for any retail seller to mark international packages as a gift. Although it would help the buyer out on customs charges. I send enough packages internationally that if I started doing that, I would be caught right away and heavily fined. I can’t afford fines. Sorry.
That said, I am willing to ship anywhere in the world, as long as the buyer pays for shipping. I package things well too. I don’t want to jinx myself, but I’ve never had anything break yet. Knock on wood.
August 7, 2007 at 4:42 pm #606352Is there a company in the US I can get items bought within the US shipped to , who will then ship over to the UK ?
