Wolfen, if it wasn’t for our International buyers, sadly the U.S. sellers wouldn’t be making much money – they really do tend to be able to afford things more! I highly suggest everyone open their selling to International because of it; I have sold to just about everywhere: Singapore, U.K., Canada, Colombia, well everywhere pretty much.

It’s good to see someone in the US advocate international shipping. 🙂

I’ve had countless occasions where Ebay sellers in the US won’t ship abroad just because it’s “too much hassle” for them. Customs forms are nothing to be afraid of – item name, value, date & signature – then you’re done. But if those sellers don’t want the extra money on their auctions, it’s their loss I guess.

I shipped a Narsil replica to Malaysia some…oh, seven years ago and it was far heavier (and longer) than an emp would be. I think I paid $60 to the USPS to ship it. Multiply that to whatever increase there’s been since 2004. 😛

Last time I took a double-boxed emperor in to the post office to get a shipping quote to Australia, it was in the range of $180-200 I believe, which was scary but not as scary as $800 some. That was without any type of insurance or anything, which I was told I could not get on the package unless I sent it international Registered which was outrageously expensive. Also, this was a while ago, before the most recent postal increase. If you can, try taking the piece with you to a physical post office location and ask.

As a seller, I do offer international shipping on my art, but something to consider: In order for me to be protected as a seller, I must send items insured. Last time I sent jewelry insured to Australia it took me and my postmaster a week to work out all the regulations and in the end it was a gigantic hassle indeed! It also ended up costing three times as much as I had quoted my customer, so I lost money on it. The usps.com calculator is not accurate when it comes to international insured shipments because it does not offer the options I need, so I have to somewhat blindly quote customers shipping costs and if they end up being more, I eat it. I love my international customers and I do not at all blame them for the problems, but our own postal system here in the USA makes it very hard to ship to you sometimes. 🙁

I 2nd that. I love all my international customers and lately they have almost all been outside the US. But unless it’s to Canada or Mexico I tend to always lose money. Unless I’ve quoted something really high, but then again that’s happened with US customers too  I hate having to pass those cost to my customers but I don’t like losing money either.

                Hi everyone,

I am said annoying international buyer… 😳 I’m sorry Wolfen, I didn’t know this would be such a pain in the rear. I was expecting anything up to $200 US for shipping, but not $822! I think USPS (or UPS) is pulling a dodgy here. He is bigger then the other Windstones, but not that much! I thought $150 would be more like it. Still, I do thank you for being willing to ship to the end of the world (effectively, that is what Australia is), as not everyone does and that can make it hard to aquire certain pieces. Also, I am aware that you might like to charge for compensation for the hassle. I was estimating that I would be up for around $500 AU. Hopfully it won’t be more than that. Once again Wolfen, I’m sorry for the hassle.

Oh, no! Dont be sorry for anything! I’m glad to ship just about anywhere, its just I havent ever sent anywhere but North America and I want to make sure I dont do something wrong or over look something.

I did another estimate of UPS (I was convinced something got entered in wrong) and now its giving me something a little more accurate…its saying at 17lbs, and a billable weight of 25lbs (??) from here to Australia is $367.27 which is a buttload of money for shipping but still better than $800+.
I will get him ready to go and take Nam’s advice and take him to the post office-there’s one down the street from my mother’s house where the Emp is, and hopefully they can help me out. I HATE our postal service here in the states-they broke my peacock and rainbow Emperor…the Rainbow Emperor was like the last one on the face of the earth after the color was retired, and after 6 months of red tape, they still didnt want to give me my money back on him. I couldnt replace him for what I paid, and couldnt find another one besides the one in the Windstone store, which was $100 more than I paid (the store I bought him from still had the old pricing on him) So I took him back and had a friend here re-sculpt his broken parts. She did an amazing job! But after that issue, I avoided USPS. I’ll have to pack him like he can survive nuclear war 🙂

To the people who dont ship international: Maybe they dont because they print postage online and/or have a daily pickup. Maybe some people arent too mobile or are too busy to go to the post office (the nearest one to my place is at least 20 mins away) and printing international postage online can be a pain. I tried todo that this week with UPS to Canada and OMG it was confusing. I ended up taking it down to a store location and letting the pros fill out the paperwork. Much easier that way 🙂

Did you try DHL? They specialize in international shipping and may be cheaper.
Also, the bigger the box, the less time in shipping you want… Our bigger units at work get really worked over if we ship Ground. We have to ship 3 day just so there is less handling/damage…

                    Hi Wolfen,

Phoenix pointed out DHL. That could be a bit cheaper, but otherwise I might have to cancel the sale. I cannot afford an extra $367 on top of the emp’s price, as this will end up costing me over AU$700 in total. I could have afforded up to US$250 but being on a low income I cannot absorb the extra cost (the only way I could afford it in the first place was because my gran left me $500 in her will).

I’m so sorry to have caused all this and I really loved the emp, but the shipping is rediculous. Oh well, there goes the dream of me ever getting an emp. 😥

I now see why people don’t bother to send international. Sometimes it really sucks living out here! 😡

                    I’m so sorry Wolfen.

Oh, Tethra, I think I may have given the wrong idea! oh no! I can ship the Emperor for around $100ish via USPS postal service…I was just curious about UPS-thats obviously not an option in this case since they are so expensive. I’m planning on heading out to Moms house to find the exact shipping cost to you-dont worry, it will be MUCH less than even $200. 🙂

$822 can’t be right, I just shipping a good size box to Austrailia for fursuit stuff I sold and it was about $60 That was USPS though.

Granted, an Emperor would be bigger and heavier, but still. Damn!

What I did was I boxed it up and brought it to my Post office, and had them quote me and didn’t ship it. I gave the customer the quote and once it was paid off they went. I don’t know wht UPS would charge though. I usually don’t do international through them because in the past I thought their international rates were a bit too pricy, but $822 is just nuts!
