I mentioned a while back that I do medieval reenactment with the SCA & currently was the Queen of Ansteorra (Texas & Oklahoma). I also mentioned that I had to cut back on my Windstone spending (& very nearly missed being able to buy the Silver Spangle Poad but thankfully she is arriving at my house today!) due to paying off some very expensive coronets my Husband & I were getting once we stepped down as King & Queen. I also promised I would share pics of mine when I got it.
Well, we stepped down this past Saturday (man, I cried soooooo much) & so I have pics for you! 🙂 The coronet was designed by me & made by my friend Amy. It is made of argentium silver & has real garnets set in all but one of the roses (the center front rose has a 10 pointed star which is the symbol of our kingdom) & is lined & padded with velvet.
I have to say these pictures REALLY don’t do it any justice; they are sooo much prettier in real life!
Overall coronet

I will share Hubby’s coronet in another post; need to grab the pics from him.
Here are two pics from our last court as well.
Opening words of the final court (I look calm-ish. I was so not calm)
Kneeling before Hubby as he moves to take off my crown. This picture kills me.
So now we are a Count & Countess & don’t wear the gold kingdom crowns anymore but rather the silver ones that we had made to suit our personal tastes. 🙂

Ravens. 🙂 My husband’s SCA name is ‘Hrafn’ which means ‘Raven’ in Old Norse. 🙂

Heehee; I call them ‘Friesiacorns’. 🙂 I was very specific about how the unicorn needed to look when representing me; no skinny goat like ones for me!

Why did you have to step down as King and Queen?
November 11, 2009 at 2:13 pm #792419I went through your website and you are so wickedly talented! My jaw hit the floor when I saw so many of those pieces, their accuracy (or innovation) and intricacy. I could never do anything like that. I can’t even sew a button 😳
Where I use to live, we went to Rocky Horror ever year. I adore that film and always have (always loved Tim Curry and was lucky enough to meet him in very late 80s by chance). I couldn’t get up the guts to perform Columbia when I was asked to participate in a RHPS Halloween event. Too large a crowd.
I look at the costume pieces you’ve shared on your site and wish I could afford some. Course, I like the risqué female warrior ones. Where I use to live I could rock those but where I live now is sleepier and more quiet, I’d be hard pressed to find a place (even during Halloween) to wear it.
But I just wanted to stop in to express how much I admire such tremendous talent! Amazing, just amazing.

Thank you! 🙂 In the SCA the Kings & Queens have a set time that they sit the throne. Ours is 6 months. My husband competed in Crown Tournament in January (it is an actual competition, not staged) & won so we became Prince & Princess. We were P & P for 4 months as we got ‘up to speed’ on what our responsibilities were going to be. We stepped up as King & Queen in May. In July there was another Crown tournament (every 6 months) to see who would be Crown after us & then they were P & P for the last 4 months.
We might choose th compete in crown tourney again & maybe become King & Queen again but even just being able to do it once is a HUGE honor & accomplishment; most people in the SCA never get to.
November 11, 2009 at 4:01 pm #792421Thank you Sway! 🙂
