Wow, my hat is off to all of you who are doing these dragons! I’m almost done with the one I posted ealier. I changed the coloring from dark gold to metalic white, to metalic ivory to pastel dust in green, then finally light brown. I still didn’t like it, so I took out this copper pigment I have been dying to use. Low and behold, it’s a powder! So I dusted it over most of the dragon, heavier in some areas then others. I sorta like it now, I’m still not sure. I have one more coat of sealer, then I’m gonna try antiquing with a darkened watered down iridescent copper paint from Golden. I’ll post photos when it’s all done. I just wanted to post and say how much I respect all the talent it takes to do one of these dragons. I think this is by far the hardest sculpt to do! I’ll be heading back to wolves, griffs and ki-rins, thank you very much!

I know the dragon is the most difficult to do. I think I want to do more dragons then anything else tho.

I thought the dragons were much easier than the griffins.

I think the griffins take more time, but the dragon is harder espically in that tight spot.

For me… it’s harder to narrow down colro choices and patterns on teh dragon than it is on the Gryphons…

And the wolves… for me… are almost the hardest…

Though for painting… I agree… the detail required for a dragon is above and beyond the Wolves… and almost the Gryphons.

For me… the Ki-Rins are the easiest to paint. 😀

Yeah, I think the wolves are the hardest. It’s the color palette on the wolves that makes it difficult for me. To me, there are only so many colors you can paint a winged wolf. With the other fantasy beasts you can get all colorful but with the wolves I like the more realistic looking colors.

I like using the powdered pigment stuff too. Can’t wait to see what yours looks like. I haven’t tried varnishing yet myself…it scares me. 😯
