After the last time my husband had back issues I started making these at home. The last two have been with us for over a year now and they see at least weekly use.

Flexible homemade alcohol water ice pack

      2 cups water
      1 cup rubbing alcohol
Food coloring for the blue tint (optional)
2 zip-top bags – quart or gallon-size or vacuum sealer bags

Mix the water and alcohol together in one of your zip-top bags and add food coloring, if desired, until you get that perfect blue tint. Release as much air as possible and seal the bag. I recommend double bagging for strength.

Just saw Dr Dinnings, my rhuematologist today. He says he is going to leave me in care of my doctor, Nichole for awhile but to call if anything new comes up. He said she is on the right track and already doing everything he would. I am glad to have good communication between my docs. As for my joints, he is renewing (or making permanent? Not sure) my handicap sticker and looked at my joints again. Said NO running and limit walking. Bike if I can for mild exercise but swimming its best since i cant do aquatic therapy. I may not be able to walk any more 5 – 10 years down the road. I gotta be careful that i don’t end up with a full dislocation in one of my hips or knees. If I do, it will never heal properly.

sorry this isn’t much of an update. I am also on a paleo diet now geared towards reducing inflammation and fatigue associated with autoimmune diseases like lupus. I will be seeing Nichole tomorrow morning. She may run some labs, but i don’t know. I think I still owe you guys pyo swap pics and pics of pebbles and a couple commissions drag0n did for me and mary in june-ish.

Sorry to revive my pretty much dead thread…

is it dumb that I am scared of the seizures coming back this winter? I am really scared that they might with the chilling air and flare ups and such. Actually I am quite terrified of them The final estimate of Laundry2011 ad my other friends was around 200+ seizures last fall/winter from my lupus. They seemed to be triggered by a combination of fatigue, temp extremes going in and out of buildings, cold air and often sickness and being tired. I am worried cause I am much weaker this year than when i first went in with it, and I am almost never sick and/or not flared up now. Most were non epileptic from stress of then lupus and inflammation and my docs said there was a good chance of me seeing them again if they were very common in my first flare ups with lupus. This really bothers me. I don’t go through all that again but there is a chance I might. And with my EDS on my joints…ugh am i stupid to be so scared of them? I had nightmares all they way until the end of June though they ended in Feb. 🙁

          Sincerely,

          the apparently seizure-phobic artist

I think that it is very understandable to be afraid and worried about them. From what I understand, it’s no picnic. All I can say is be as prepared as you can be. Have friends who support you around. And don’t let the fear and worry keep you from doing what you WANT to do. Don’t allow this to limit you.

I agree with Prezaurian and seriously, I think anyone would be afraid of it; I know I would be. I think the fear you are feeling is perfectly natural – but from my experience as a hypochondriac, it’s really important that you don’t let it rule you. Focus on the positives around you like your friends and awesome art, be grateful for your times without seizures and maybe they won’t come back, or if they do, hopefully less frequently. I’m crossing my fingers for you!

To anyone who is still following my journy….lately i am freakin exhausted. Havind a hard time keeping up with things and pains such. So I ended up with strep throat the week before halloween. Strep turned into pnemonia and a double ear infection which i am finally now starting to get over (i think anyways..) So I had my followup with my doc from July and we decided to adress the on and off pain in my abdomen. It comes and goes, is sharp and stabbing and has stuck around for around a year now, escpeccially when I lay on my left side at night. So she ordered two ultrasounds. An abdominal one and a trans-vag ultrasound. I got the results later that night….I have an enlarged ovary, but there are no cysts that can be seen…which scares me, cause they already ruled out the possibility of endometriosis. I just feel so tired and the pain is more frequent as of late. I am going to be getting another ultrasound in January when I come back from Michigan, and if it is still enlarged (probably will be), then they will be forwarding me to a specialist. I know I shouldn’t worry so much, but cysts are usually seen on an ultrasound and are formed during ones period, which i am no where near. My chance of cancer and tumors with lupus is like quadrupled…. but ya. I am very tired, very scrambled, feel like poo and now this. 😛 whats next? I don’t even wanna know. I just wanna hide in a little bubble….At least I can finally send my swap peice out that has been done since like week two..
