I’d probably grab my practice katana out of instinct…they’d think I was nuts threatening them with me in my pajamas holding a sword…hair sticking up everywhere…what an image… 😯 😯

Yikes! I think I would have run out the front door screaming. Glad your ok and he didn’t think to try to open the door. Makes me wish I still had my dogs, they scared away someone trying to get into my place years ago. I think they are the best security alarm anyone could have.

I live alone, and my shepherd is trained just for this reason. Someone kicking and screaming at the door would have driven her ballistic.

I’m glad you’ve got such a good dog, LIH, and that everything turned out ok!

You know, this is the third time my dog has warned me like this?

The other 2 times were while I was walking her. The first time it happened, she was about two years old, were walking down the street and there were two men walking toward us from the opposite direction. Suddenly as the men were coming closer she started stalking (you know what I mean, the slow, deliberate, staring walk) and growling (the serious hackles raised, bared teeth growling, not the you’re annoying me, let go of my tail, half-hearted complaint). I was so startled, I just grabbed on to her collar and kept walking. Meanwhile the two men cut across the street and got away.

The second time was a couple of years later and was pretty much a repeat of the first except there was only one man that time.

At some point I mentionned this behaviour to my father and how startled I had been. I mean, my dog is the friendliest dog I know, she loves everyone! She goes up to strangers to be petted all the time! He said if she did something like this again not to try and hold her back, let her be as threatening as she wanted to be. That although I hadn’t gotten a weird feeling from those men, she had and her senses were much keener than my own.Dogs sense evil πŸ˜‰ Rab actually growled at a guy once. The guy was a ways away and posed no threat, but Rab wanted to go after him. Maybe just cuz it was dark and Rab could not see him clearly. Who knows… At the same house, a drunk lady stumbled in and began getting undressed. She came to our bedroom, opened the door and saw us, and got all confused and locked herself in the bathroom. The dogs had not barked at her at all. They let her walk all over the house and walked next to her licking her hand πŸ™„ Whats even more ridiculous was that my husband didnt even get out of bed! He said, “she’s just drunk and came in the wrong house.” and went back to sleep!! I guess he is used to that kind of behavior πŸ˜†

Glad you are okay, that is scary, I am so glad I live out in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors. It’s harder to sneak up on my house, and I have alert dogs too.

So glad you’re okay. My cats are useless in cases like this, they just run and hide.

Funny how you never hear the saying “guard cat”, though some cats can be very protective.

She’s been getting non-stop petting since this happened… Okay so I’ll admit it’s not so much as a reward but mostly because I’m a nervous wreck, but still, it works both ways πŸ˜†

And I just couldn’t face sleeping at my place tonight so I’m staying at my dad’s for a few days.

I love my cats, they’re chickens, but loving chickens nonetheless. I’ve never really had a dog of my own. They sound ok. I was put off by them when I was a kid and my mother (whom I cant stand and havent seen for 6 years) decided to try out running a puppy mill. It was awful, my job was to feed them in their little pens and then dig the holes when they died. They lived an average of 5-7 years but puppies often died from other stuff. They were never allowed out of the pens, although I would reach through sometimes to pet them. She had 12 female cocker spaniels and 3 males for breeding and when there were puppies sometimes there would be as many as 100 dogs in a small space at once. She did that for years until thank god someone reported her. I mostly associate dogs with graves. πŸ˜₯

Glad you are okay and that things have settled down. You have an awesome dog to protect you! Mine are both rescued, and would pee themselves into a coma if someone came into the yard with them! 😳

My cat, on the other hand, thinks he’s a panther, and goes balistic if anyone or anything comes into the yard. πŸ‘Ώ He screams at the top of his lungs and goes into a growling fit until I get up to see what’s going on! He’s solid black, 16.5 pounds, and is VERY loud! All you can see are the eyes, so it’s pretty intimidating–he’s run off several people and several critters! Definitely an attack cat! πŸ˜†
