So is the forum separate from the online store? Because where ever stuff is sold from, I would think that is where the tax is charged from. So then where is the online store if it isn’t on the forum? If it is in Alberta, and not in Oregon at all, or California, wouldn’t Alberta have been charging customs and not a California sales tax? That doesn’t make sense. Am I missing something? If the entire factory, forum, online store, and all, is going to be based in Oregon with no tax, then there shouldn’t be a sales tax at all period. If the forum doesn’t have anything to do with the store, then it’s irrelevant to the tax, and I still want to know at what point the wretched tax will be done with. Look, I adore my state and ordinarily I don’t mind paying the same taxes everyone else HERE has to pay. But for instance, I can’t buy extra LP’s for anyone else on the forum because no one else in the US wants to repay me for the sales tax, so I can’t get a “you watch the store for me and I’ll watch out for you” buddy, it always has to be one way because of the tax! That’s only one social disadvantage! Each state has its problems and if I ask someone in Kansas to pay the going store price plus s/i and the tax, they think I’m adding on a profit! No, it’s just the .825% that goes to California’s budget problems. That isn’t Kansas’s problem! Sorry, off on a rant! Just frustrated!
Main point is, the store has been California based and has had to collect the tax, a bookkeeping headache. If they are now going to be based in Oregon, a non-salestax collecting state, they don’t have to collect the tax. At what point does this happen? The forum, online store and all, move to Oregon on the 30th of May, effectively and for all intents and purposes, begin to sell dragons and other wonders to the rest of the world from Oregon. Is the store not going with the forum? Where will it go instead? If it does, it will be in taxless Oregon. I don’t see how it can go with the forum, sell stuff online from there, and still charge a California tax! If so, please explain it to me! Also, when does it change?

Tax is based on where the base of operation is. I think the items in the store and Ebay are still being shipped from California, so Californians still get taxed. When Windstone moves we won’t. It’s not based on the forum’s location.
Have we been told when the move will be ocmplete?

We haven’t been told just yet when the factory move will be complete.

Also, the forum is staying in Alberta. We’re just moving to a different server location. 🙂

Yeah… the location of the “online” store has no effect on the sales. The company is located in CA, so CA residents are charged CA sales tax. Plain and simple. The online store could be in Europe for that matter.

Once Windstone is located in OR, then it would be OR residents paying OR tax.. but there is none… but CA residents will stop paying it. Yay.

Last time I talked to John he mentioned their actual ‘move’ will be occurring around the same time the forum moves, but, as to when Windstone will officially change their sales tax/base of operations, that’s something John would have to speak to.

The forum and online store are only extensions of Windstone. Where they are has no effect or bearing on taxes.

Windstone’s base of operations does not change on May 30th… but it will in the weeks to come.

We just timed the moves to coincide so that the forum and online store would experience the downtime right at the best possible time when Windstone was shutting down to pack up.

Will there be an announcement when we no longer have to pay the tax? I have postponing a couple of major purchases because I feel that I have already “donated” enough taxes to the cause and if I can see the light at the end of the tax tunnel, I am encouraged to hang on *fingers raw and bleeding* That’s why I was so hopeful that this was finally IT! But, no. Hopes dashed again. 😥 BUT! At least there is still hope for soon! (My deepest sympathies for the folks stuck forever with customs!)So I will wait more quietly and cheer when it’s time!

I’m sure John or Melody will be announcing when the transition occurs, I imagine there will be a few days when the office is closed to make the change.

Sometimes it doesn’t seem like it, but I don’t work for Windstone (on staff anyways), am not part of Windstone… I just run servers .. so it can blur in a bit.
