Okay so, I know I have no business jumping in the middle of this thread, but I love DM! Without DM nobody would ever respond to my posts, LOL! Seriously though, don’t leave DM! I think your great!

I just might have to really cut back. I was also starting to get irritated that all my mistakes and accidently repeats where seeming to be held against me which is no fun and I did not really want to be here if it was not fun. Sorry if I do not remember EVERYTHING I have already said

Just read part of the topic again. We would def miss you if you left, and you are right about others at work. That is no fair.

Well, just give it a try, DM. If you use the “view posts since last visit”, you can scroll up and/or go back a page to catch up on the posts. Or try the notepad thingy. lol It never hurts to try, right? We all say silly things and things that make people go 🙄 , 😯 and ❓ . Don’t feel badly about it.

You’re right about things not being fair at work. My best advice is to behave and always cover your “tailfeathers”!

            #531724

Work is never fair. At the home, I work my butt off, while the ones who are favorites do nothing…I make 6.50 under the table on my other job, until Spring really kicks in, then I will make commissions.
DM, you can’t leave. I am sorry if I said anything bad. I enjoy always having a reply to what I said!!
Just don’t get into trouble!!! 😀

Well I’m gone this weekend for sure. I’m leaving for Denver tomorrow and will not be back until either Sunday or Monday night. I will have to take the weekend and see how I feel when I get back. I’m also finding out about my bonus check today and watching hte white SK. A number seem to have backed off the White one but I’m still watching it. It’s the only SK I would probably EVER be interetsed in.

Thank you. I was actually considering leaving the Forum all together. I’m sorry if I say things more then once if I get excited especially about MONEY. I’m also sorry for typos but I really should not be on the forum at all while at work but if I did not I would NEVER catch up.

DM, you’re going to end up getting in trouble at work! Why don’t you catch up after work? How do you check postings on the Forum, once you log in? Do you use the “view posts since last visit”? That’s what I use and it takes me about 1/2 hour to catch up – maybe more if it’s been a heavy posting day. Maybe I’m sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong, but I would hate to see you get in trouble or fired. Just my 2 cents.

Me too…and what lamortefille mentioned is what I recommend also. I also use the “view posts since last visit”, and I generally check posts either during lunch (if I have time) or after I get home.

The thing that’s kind of annoying is that you have to get through all of the posts in one sitting otherwise you lose all of the posts from the “view posts since last visit” search. Does anyone know of a way to do a search for the posts that have been posted after a certain date/time? I tried to accomplish that by doing a search for a word that would appear in every post (e.g., “the”) and setting the “Post Time” to “descending” — so that a list of the most recent posts would show up — but it doesn’t seem to work. I keep getting “no topics found” when I do that. I wonder if something’s wrong wtih that search feature? Or am I doing something wrong?

The searcher filteres out “the” so it’s searching for nothing at all, and thus finding nothing.

                #531728

That would explain it…though it seems to make more sense for the search feature to simply search for all of the words specified…or at least have the option for doing that…

Aha…I guess you can get around that problem by searching for “tha* OR the* OR thi* OR *ing*”…that search pretty much gives all of the posts in descending order…

When a word results in a high percentage of search rate hit, it becomes automatically “stopped” by the forum software, to prevent returning a search that has 90% of the forum in it.

After a few months the word Windstone will even get added to the list.

                  #531730

So Snap, is there a way of doing a search which will show all of the posts which occurred after a certain date/time, aside from the workaround that I mentioned?

By the way, is there a way of seeing how many topic total there are on the forum? I’d like to see how effective my workaround is…

Not on the stock forum, no. It would require coding modification.

It’s just one of those quirks that we have to live with. It gets me too… the only real answer is to stop viewing at work and read when you have time to read it all. 😆

                    I know.. I’m not helping.

                    #531732

Its OK, actually…I think my workaround is good enough for my purposes. If I do a search for “tha* OR the* OR thi* OR *ing* OR *and*” I get 6077 threads…I don’t know how much of the total that represents, but 100% of the threads which were posted since my last visit (52 total) show up.

Does the mechanism which limits the search to 90% only apply to single words, or also to search strings like “tha* OR the* OR thi* OR *ing* OR *and*”? That is, is it possible for a search like that to return > 90% of the total threads on the forum?

Hmm…just noticed that there are actually a lot fewer than 6077 threads — of the 122 pages of results shown, only the first 31 have search results on them, while all pages after that are blank. Is that another strange quirk?

                      Yes

Those would give you words like “thinking” but not “this” because it’s still a stopword.

If you phrased it correctly I’m sure you could get 100% of the threads, but why would you want to do that?

You probably tripped the search engine to add new words to the stop list based on your query, or it’s a bug — probably parsing the entire list of stop words and showing the complete count but only giving you the topics that fall outside the stop words.

I don’t know the entire coding inside and out, I didn’t write the forum, I just mangle it.

As I mentioned, this is a workaround to be able to see all of the threads since my last visit, in the event that I’m interrupted in the middle of reading the search results from “shows posts since last visit”…and the posts all disappear by the time I get back to the computer. It would be nice if there was a way to display only threads with posts after a certain date/time, but I don’t see that feature…hence the workaround.

I guess its a bug…I think there are ~31 pages worth of threads total in the forum (I also get ~31 pages if I total up all of the pages in the individual categories)…
