Hello, I was talking with a couple of friends in Germany, and they were harping the virtues of the game “World of Darkness” in particular the older rule set. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had played the new rule set as opposed to the old rule set?
Similiarly, I used to play a small amount of 3.0 and also some 3.5 D&D. I was wondering what the new 4.0 version is like?
My last rant is such… anyone ever play “Dark Heresy” by Gamesworkshop? Any opions on that?

October 28, 2008 at 3:08 pm #737780I played D&D in the early 80’s – 90’s with the origanal rules (i have a ton of first print Gary Gygax D&D books) , i tried the second gen rules and well its back assward to me . Sorry never touched the 3.0 – 4.0 i didnt even know there was such a new set of rules …why must they mess with things that arent broken

Same reason they come out with new cars every year. The old one may not be broken, but it could be “better” and making a new “improved” version allows the manufacturer to stay in business against the rising tide of secondary market (used) product.
I use the quotes to indicate that what the manufacturer may claim is an improvement is actually, usually, only a difference. The new product is probably better in some ways and poorer in others, which clearly allows for future revisions.
Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, from Games Workshop, have a 5-year schedule. Everything changes over a five year period. We all know this; it’s the way the system works. GW has “change that is not change” down to a fine art.
October 29, 2008 at 3:02 pm #737782My husband and I have lots of the old WoD books, but only a few of the new ones. We’ve never actually played a game with the new rules so I can’t really tell you much about the difference in play. I’ve played in one long running game (close to two years) with the old rules and they were lots of fun.
I can say I’ve played the older six-sider version of Star Wars and the newer (but still older than what’s out now) 10-sider version and I preferred the 10 siders. Much easier to level up and keep track of things when rolling dice.
