Sorry for the loss DM, it is never easy, but I agree that it was not likely the temperatures that got to her, it could have been a number of things, I think you did your best for her, and made the end of her life the best part of it!!

I’m so sorry, DM. My godparents had a tiny cat like that. She had problems with nutrient absorption. She died young as well. The main thing is that she had a great life while she was with you. She certainly didn’t freeze to death. It’s probably that the poor thing just never could absorb enough nutrients to be fully healthy, let alone grow to a normal size.

So sorry about the kitty DM. Along with everyone else–don’t be hard on yourself. If this cat was smaller than usual then most likely it had health issues. You gave her a good life and she knew the comfort of your home until her passing. Think about it too, you found her next to your bed–a place she associated with you. [Big hugs] still it’s hard to lose a fur baby.

I’m sorry about your kitty, DM. If she was that small, she likely had health issues. My parents had two runts (sisters) and they were both plauged with health issues throughout their entire lives (one died at 2 from a heart attack, the other at 18 when the feline leukemia finally got her). I sincerely doubt it was the cold in your house that killed her. 40 isn’t that bad, and she would have found some clothing or bedding to curl up under.

Don’t beat yourself up over it (believe me I know that’s hard) and you gave her a wonderful last few months of life! *hugs*

I’m so sorry about your kitty DM. 🙁 I too am sure it wasn’t the cold. I live in Wisconsin and take care of two feral cats. This will be Budders 3rd winter with me, and Mitten’s second. I do have a bed for them outside, but it’s still below zero outside for a lot of the winter, and they survive.

I agree completely with what lamortefille said. You did everything you could to save her, and I have no doubt that when you looked into her eyes for the last time, she was thanking you. <3 Your love has not and will not go unnoticed. Don't put yourself down about it, hon. It wasn't your fault. *Hugs tight*

DITTO and also my deepest sympathy goes out to you. You are a wonderful person and gave her a better life than she had before for the time she had left.

DM I am logging in FOR YOU (not that anyone else doesn’t need it, but you should all know that I think & worry about you guys, but you seem that at this moment you need the words that not everyone can say, & make me feel like it’s from my soul as well).

Even if Sarabi Did “Die from the cold” it was probably more that it helped her through a far shorter suffering that you would never have been aware of. I don’t remember hearing if the rest of your cats ever warmed up to her, but even if they didn’t they probably would not have left her on her own otherwise if it was that cold. How you describe your morning Nightmare actually makes me think that she had a Heart attack, or similar occurrence, something very fast & quickly debilitating. You said you found her next to your bed, not on it, not under it, but nest to it. Cold is a very slow killer, you being in Cali (if I remember correctly) would not neccessarily be in a position to know that & other things about cold, but 40F is still 4C, above freezing, & Cats even scrawny ones, (unless Sphinx, & I’ld imagine maybe the Rex’s have a similar issue) still have a built in Sweater. If the Cold had killed her she would most assuredly be curled in a ball on your bed, but if she made it to the bed most cats can still crawl under the covers(or Pillows), & there would have been a Cat Pile to probably have kept her warm!! The fact she was again beside your bed & not under it also says it wasn’t one of those slower oncoming things that they hide from you for like forever until they hide away. It might not have been that she was mid stride when she was lain low, but she may have already been mostly gone when she made it there, wanting to curl up on your bed, the place which should smell the most of you, to be as close to you as possible when she passed, or to hide under your bed (assuming you’re bed is raised off the ground). Remember that even if still scrawny if you had a high quality food available at all times then she probably also has a High Metabolism, which also makes them less likely to freeze that quickly, their personal furnaces are always running.

                    Thank you
I have come to accpet that she must have had something that the vet did not see.
She was all sprawled out almost like she was running in her sleep. I have been able to wrap my mind around the fact that as you have said if she was that cold she would have curled up under my comforter
No the other cats did not ever seem to warm up to her
the 2 current girls only just accept eachothers pressence after 6 year too!!
At least she had 5 months of a good house with LOVE

DM, 40 degrees is not cold enough to do harm to a cat. I’ve seen kittens and even some older cats survive much colder temps. It wasn’t your fault, and please don’t blame yourself! *hugs*
She was lucky to have you for even the short time she did. Perhaps there was an underlying cause the vet missed. Not knowing is painful, but know this…She felt loved with you, and she was fed when hungry, and finally had a HOME to call hers. It is better to be loved even if for a short time, then to never know love at all. 🙂 (And that goes for all creatures GREAT or small.)

I understand and ALL my cats are VERY loved here. I really NEVER wanted a 5th one any way.
I did LOVE her but she was not in my plans
