I bought an Emperor for $25-$30 bucks a few years ago from a forum member (honestly don’t even remember who it was either) but the entire tail and feet are missing. It’s quite surprising that it still stands without tipping over, but it does.
Anyway, I made a latex mold of the tail and feet by using one of my other Emperors. I used cloth bandages and layers of latex so the mold is nice and rigid and it holds to the sculpt nicely, but I cannot for the life of me get a tail out of it. 🙄 I have used fimo, plaster, and now wasted a bunch of apoxie sculpt trying to get this mold to work for me. Everything just looks AWFUL or crumbles to pieces.
Anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?

My art: featherdust.comMarch 5, 2011 at 3:31 am #839529Is the latex not stretching enough to remove it? Maybe you used too much cloth bandage? I made a mold of a little zombie bunny I made, but the mold wouldn’t stretch enough and kept decapitating them (which is okay for a undead bunny, i guess 😆 ). I made a pure latex mold and a plaster brace for it and got a lot less headless bunnies. I also use a little bottle of spray I picked up at Michael’s, let me go find it and see what it’s called…..
I used Castin’ Craft Mold Builder (brush-on rubber) to make the mold, then sprayed it with Castin’ Craft Mold Release & Conditioner (it’s made for making resin easy to remove, but it works just fine on the cheap brand of plaster I bought at Wally World). I’m not an expert on mold making, but I hope that helps
March 5, 2011 at 5:03 pm #839530Oh! Actually! I tried again with plaster and it worked MUCH better!!! I think I had to just let it dry in the mold. I didn’t think I should because I was afraid if it didn’t work the mold would be ruined, but it came out awesome!

March 5, 2011 at 6:48 pm #839532You’re advice was helpful though skeeter, I did make the mold pretty ridgid. I was afraid of it warping while the sculpture was upside down and I poured in the plaster. I put him in a giant bin of cat litter to keep the shape 😆
