I love celtic weekend at the ren fair. So many scotsman there its not even funny. Alot of them wear a kilt the way its ment to be worn and when a stiff breeze blows you get a show (oh no I did not just type that /runsaway)

You should visit the Gathering in Salt Lake City, Utah if you like men in kilts! And my man is a lovely laddie in his to boot. (goes with the name Campbell, ya’ know) can’t get the boys to wear ’em yet but they do have ties for Sunday in the Campbell plaid!

Weren’t the Campbells the ones who slaughtered the Lamonts? My Scotsman is a Lamont… Oi! Family feud!

That would be the MacDonald’s at Glen Coe. My married name is Campbell maiden name Marshall. I grew up with friends who were descendents of the Glen Coe Massacre. They didn’t tell me about it until AFTER I was married. The interesting part of the story that not many people know, is that a “wise woman” or “witch” (which ever you prefer) who was a MacDonald that survived the massacre put a blessing/curse on the MacDonald Clan that they would have no female children born to the clan until the male population had been restored to what it had been before the slaughter. My friends, Paul & Mark MacDonald and the off shoot branches of their family that trace back to the massacre have NO female children in their line of descent. To make things a little more interesting, Paul & Mark are 1st cousins; but their fathers are identical twins and so are their mothers. So while they are cousins, they look exactly alike.

One other thing to add…. the rest of the Clans were so outraged by the Campbell’s betrayal that they essentially kicked ’em out of Scotland and sent the Marshall clan along to keep an eye on the Campbells and keep the peace. So in our family, we think it’s hysterically funny that a Marshall (me) married a Campbell (hubby) and were STILL keeping ’em out of trouble!

Wow. That is really bizarre. Especially the twin parents bit; what are the odds of THAT happening?

😀 😀 😀 purpledoggy! Kilts MUST be worn that way!

I’ve got Davidson Scots in me and don’t know much about it other than it’s a lovely green plaid

Corsets are great! esspecially if you get one that is made/fitted to you. You can’t slouch in them so it’s really good for the back. You don’t have to tightlace and really the 15″ waist is a myth. Historical studies of corsets show that 18″ was the smallest and that was from a lady who had been tightlacing for decades!

My clan’s kilt looks like a Christmas tree 😆 My husband is Guthrie and my fathers side is Crawford. Before my grandmother died she traced back the family history to Scotland and found that William Wallace’s mother was a Crawford. When I told my husband about it he said that the Guthries tried to betray William Wallace to England so we should hate each other.

i worked the MD renn fest as a medic , you would be surprised how many people hurt them selves or sucumb to the heat and or stupidity. The vendors are the worst you would think after many years of doing the fair they would know what to expect from the weather … well one fellow i wont say his name or location has the idea that beer alone will hydrate you in 100 degree weather with wonderful 100% maryland humidity , we had him transported to the hospital 4 times that year . Seniors free day is the absolute worst , nothing better than a 75 year old man sliding down the gravel path by Jury Rig Theater , i swear it has to be a 45 degree angel , you get one old timer falling down there at least every hour. The hammer game where you try to ring the bell is the best , so many ding dongs smash their toes with the mallet its not funny , you get a couple of those a day even my dumb sister hit her foot … its twice as funny if you know the person 🙄 . The crowds even refuse to move for you while taking a person for treatment , i used to yell move it or loose it and run down the uncoupritive people .

The absolute best held secerate at the MD renn fest is the Turkey legs .. they aint turkey. They are hind pork legs . They say its turkey so that they can sell them to Jewish and Muslum folks with out them knowing . I only found out cause the heat got to me while carrying a rather large person to the front for an ambo ride , one of the owners Kim saw me and the girl i was with that day struggling to get back to the first aid hut and took us to the freezer to cool off and grab some ice. They were getting the boxes of “turkey legs” ready for the next day and i noticed the boxes said pork hocks. Thats when i learned even the food was an illusion there 😛

I don’t think the twins having identical boys sounds too strange. It’s just like Ferternal twins NOT looking alike

a wagon for your little one? it will serve well to hold the baby and the diaper bag. As well as any goodies you may buy.
I have always wanted to work the Rennisance Festival here in Houston. I just haven’t had any luck finding a job. I’d love to Face Paint at a Faire I’ve been Facepainting professionally since I was 19. We moved here from Austin Texas and in Austin there is something going on every weekend and selling my art and facepainting was always easy. Here in Huffman Texas there is never anything going on! I haven’t been able to get a gig since I moved here 4 years ago.
The drive to the Texas Ren. Faire is about 2 hours, so working isn’t that far to drive. I think I could even borrow a inlaws travel trailer to stay in.
I’m rambling. I can’t post pictures yet when I can I’ll post pictures of my Elf costume.
