Ok so how many of you are already making your plans for this years fair season? I’m buying new pieces for my outfit (need to change it up a little this year). I’m also trying to figure out how to lug all the baby stuff around with us this year. Danny thinks we can push the stroller but since everything is dirt and hills I’m not to sure thats going to work out. I also need to figure out an outfit for Alyssa since she can’t be the only one not dressed up. The only down side this year is I can’t get drunk off my butt like I usually do 🙁 I hope to get one glass of mead in which I don’t think will do any harm.

I don’t know about your ren faire, but the Georgia one is pretty hilly and I’ve managed to push Gavin around in his stroller. I know for older kids (like Gavin) I’ve seen them pulled around in wagons, and the Georgia Ren Faire rents them out.
Here he is at the 2005 ren faire:
And a year later at the 2006 ren faire:
We missed the 2007 one because that was around the same time my husband deployed. Gavin doesn’t have a costume yet, just the devil horns.
These are me and my husband getting ready to go for the 2004 ren fair (left – and I’m barely pregnant there) and then me at the 2005 ren faire. We bought his costume, but I made both of mine (same pattern, different size). I couldn’t fit back into the first one after I had Gavin. It’s too hot for the Georgia Ren Faire (unless you go near the opening) so I’ve bought a costume that I can use the pieces for different things (belly dancer or tavern wench) depending on the accessories.
March 10, 2008 at 3:51 pm #676562I go to the Maryland ren fest which is pretty hilly and dusty (muddy if it rains). I think we might go back to the one in PA but they have paved walkways there so it won’t be a problem. This is my outfit I have right now.
I’m getting a new bodice but I’m not sure what else to change on it. My husband is getting a new robe since his tunic doesn’t fit him. Since his transplant he has put on over 30lbs so he needs a new outfit lol.
This is his old outfit that no long fits him…
He made the staff (he loves making those things). He’s also mad at me for posting this pick because he says he looks so sickly in this picture. He used to have a robin hood outfit he would wear….
Hack and Slash for the WIN! He still has this outfit somewhere but he doesn’t wear it.
He also has to carry a skunk with him and one time he ran into the town drunk and had to get a pick with him and his ferret.
I need to make a fairy outfit for Alyssa because we ARE going to the fairy festival this year. I haven’t been able to go in years and I’m just dying to make it. I use the same outfit for fairy fest that I use for the ren fair. I just add my wings to it lol.
March 10, 2008 at 6:19 pm #676563March 10, 2008 at 6:19 pm #676564I can’t wait to go to the Faire this year. I get to be accompanied by a Scotsman! In a kilt!
One of these days, I’m going to get a big, poofy white shirt. That’s the only thing my costume lacks. I have a nice skirt from my mom, I even have a sword, a dagger, and a tail… but no poofy sleeves. And my bodice has a zipper. *sigh* Costume envy! I’d love to get one of these:
http://www.ravenswoodleather.com/Bodices/saberist.html although I’m not sure about the leather, awesome as it is… seems like it would be too warm to wear in hot weather. But it looks amazing and goes with the swordsman appearance I’ve been wanting to cultivate.Anyway, you guys have fantastic costumes. I particularly like the dead skunk.
March 10, 2008 at 6:37 pm #676565Everyone’s outfits look great!
Purple, tell your husband I love his skunky staff! 😆
Chess, those bodices are really nice.
March 10, 2008 at 7:20 pm #676566I so hope we get to go this year, we didn’t last year because of all the wedding stress, The NY RenFaire is in September here, so it can be pretty warm. Doesn’t stop me from going though. Though this year, hopefully (crosses fingers and wishes really hard) I’ll be pregnant by then, so I don’t know what to do about my cincher.
I made the cape and skirt. i cheated and bought the chemise and cincher. What is appropriate renfaire costuming for a pregnant woman?March 10, 2008 at 7:31 pm #676567I was going to go in the outfit I have minus the bodice but hubby was still recovering from surgery so we didn’t go. I would think your outfit minus the cincher would be fine. It took me years to get my outfit but where I found it was pretty cheap http://www.unicornclothing.com/.
March 10, 2008 at 7:37 pm #676568Oh Droool! I would love an outfit like that!! I love yours by the way! I ddin’t think of just going without the cincher, that makes my life so much easier!
March 10, 2008 at 7:47 pm #676569I was just going to go without my bodice and I still think it would have looked fine. You could also try a belt (I use a braided leather one) and just have it hang lose over you.
March 10, 2008 at 8:03 pm #676570I’m horribly disappointed that there is no longer a Ren Fest in Toronto. We loved going, though we didn’t dress up, gets way too hot. I do have a couple of costumes but I use those at Halloween.
March 10, 2008 at 8:06 pm #676571Ok, so I would love to go to one of these, but do HAVE to dress in costume? They seem like so much fun!
March 10, 2008 at 8:08 pm #676572No, you don’t have to dress up, alot of people don’t. And it’s still a ton of fun! we’ve gone in normal clothes a couple times, especially when it’s too hot for garb.
March 10, 2008 at 8:11 pm #676573Cool! I’ll have to find one this summer. I would dress, but I know hubby would never…
Any vendors here do well at a ren fair?
